Wednesday morning last week and Phoenix had been kicked over night (I'm assuming)
Just below the point of his shoulder, just above the top of his near side leg.
Small graze about an inch long, 2mm wide and not very deep, but *huge* swelling (think size of an apple chopped in half) The area was warm but not hot and he was short striding but not lame.
Cold hosed for 10-15 minutes, then hibiscrubbed & purple sprayed twice on Wednesday, as well as being given 2 feeds with 2 bute in each, and put into a small individual paddock for 36 hours.
Cold hosed etc again twice on Thursday, 2 feeds, 1 bute in each. Back out into big field, swelling going down and not as warm.
Friday morning hosed etc again, feed with 1 bute. Swelling down to the size of a 50p around the cut, not warm, sound.
Figured as it seemed to be ok I was safe to still go away over the weekend & 2 of the girls kept their eye on it & put a cool gel pack on it & more purple spray.
Back up tonight and swelling is back, covering the same area but not as big a bump (if that makes sense) It's a hard lump as opposed to fluid-y. Warm but not hot and short striding again. Cue more cold hosing, bute etc.

So couple of questions.
Bearing in mind it was 6 nights ago now, how long should it take for the swelling to go down? And am I right in giving it another 2 days of cold hosing (as this seemed to work before) before perhaps calling the vet? And if they come out should I ask for them to bring the portable x-ray machine just in case there's anything underlying? (Surely not tho as he'd be lame/not weight bearing?!)
Haven't called them up to now as figure the first thing they'll tell me to do is cold hose & bute and wanted to try that first.

Also posted in vets, thanks.

Thanks- he's sound today- so I think I'll just ring them and see what they advise. :)
Swelling down a little this morning and sound as a pound if his antics this morning are anything to go by.
