Please excuse the question if it has been asked before but none of mine have ever had Cushings before.

Diagnosed 20th October after suggestion by the vet, she started Prascend on the Thursday that week. She is not eating her feed and we found she left her breakfast when we checked later and dinner as well. Now I crush 7 or 8 pony nuts (only nothing else when she comes in at 2pm ) and mix her un crushed 1/2 pill and she eats it. She is still not eating her complete feed. For those who have gone through the loss of appetite bit, how long does it last?

The old pony I had with it never really got his appetite back once on prascend, other than grass he became more and more picky despite going through numerous different feeds most of which he liked for a week or two then went off it, he was in his 30's so had done well, yours is still very much in the early stages of the medication, it can take a while for them to adjust and you may need to up the prascend then drop it again before you get the dose right, it does need to be introduced slowly, which by you saying 1/2 a pill you are doing, give it a few more weeks and it should start to get better.
I would cut back her feeds until she is only getting what she will eat then after a few days at that level gradually increase again very slowly so as to not overface her, if she needs to put weight on add oil or linseed for high calorie, low bulk and it is a safe feed for cushings ponies.

Mine was months so you probably have a way to go yet. I had to keep changing feed to try and tempt her. It would work at first and then after a couple of weeks she would stop eating again. The good thing was she kept eating her hay so wasn't going hungry. I now give her prascend dissolved in yogurt from a big syringe and she's happy with it this way. She eats her feed most days now but she will still leave it now and again.

Mine's appetite is still not the same 1 year on. However he hasn't lost his appetite, he has just become more fussy as to what he will eat. Forage is no problem but he is a lot more fussy with bucket feeds and seems to have more of a sweet tooth than previously which is a pain as he is meant to be on a low sugar diet. He also won't eat supplements any more. He looks well though and gets and eats Alfa-A Oil with a bit of micronised linseed in it, though he is mostly on hay. He gets his pill in a scrap of bread, which is easiest for us.
