My horse got what looks like a very severe kick above the knee ten days ago. At the time it seemed like he might have broken the leg but it's clear now that he hasn't. But he has got a puncture wound which went two inches into his leg, upwards and away from the joint. This wound has now been running clear, uninfected serum for ten days, in quite large quantities, enough to gunge up his knee and shin bone as it runs down. He's been covered by antibiotics all the time, he's only the tiniest little bit lame, the filling is reducing every day. He is now booked in for scans on Monday morning. I'm just wondering if anyone can set my mind at rest a bit by telling me about wounds they've had which have leaked for two weeks and then healed fine?????

Years ago our first TB was kicked hard in the field on his upper back leg sort of below the hip on the fat thigh area. Not lame no bony issues or tendon issues but drained clear serous fluid for about 10 days maybe more. It was quite deep but was several hours old when we found it and a bit late to stitch. It just closed slowly over time. His lower leg also swelled and he had antibiotic cover too. It did not scar and we had no issues at all. I would imagine lower down the leg it will drain even more. So long as it is not tendon sheath fluid or joint fluid I would not worry.
