I've put a muzzle on my mare for the first time ever.
She's been wearing it since Sunday, on during the day and off at night.
However, she just stands at the gate and does not move or she stands at the top of the field.
I feel so sorry for her but I know it's for her own good!
So I was wondering how long did it take for your horses to get used to wearing the muzzle and eating etc with it on?
Thanks

Shy has got a greenguard muzzle, after his shires muzzle last year (kept getting it off).

Atm, I'm putting it on him, and just sitting around in the paddock watching him - 10 - 20 minutes a day, and seeing how he eats/drinks and adjusting it as it needs it, till hopefully we've got it right.

I've had to poke grass thru the bars so he gets the idea, and he's starting to settle with it on. So could you try poking grass thru ?

Six of the eight horse s at our farm have these and I have watched all of them do the same, on Sat the latest joined the muzzle gang, and she is just standing there looking very sorry for herself, but the others were all the same and most of them took about a week some bit more and some a bit less but they have all got there in the end and now all eat fine with them on, so keep strong they will get the hang of it
