How long to give Egusin?

I'm a few days into my Egusin SLH tub and no improvement yet.
He's currently intermittently good or bad to brush in girth area and resents the saddle being put on - think flashing teeth.
I will need to decide in the next few days whether to buy another tub or not but its very expensive if its not going to work at all.

We've maxed out on our insurance so I'm not scoping again but I'm convinced he still has some sort of ulcer issue still although he could be being just a total git!

My next try will be Rite Trac.

His history is the usual course of GG followed by a month on Lifeforce and Aloe Vera. He is quite a bit better but still a problem.

Would you expect Egusin to work by now, if its going to work at all?

Hi there,

Trev was better after 24 hours & vastly, vastly improved after 10 days. He's been out of sorts since the summer; listless under saddle, grumpy etc. Had 3 months on abprazole with improvement varying daily from 70% to 30%, & have just switched to Egusin.

I agree that it's £££££ - I can only afford 1/3 of the dose. I almost have mixed feelings that it's worked - delighted to have my horse back but a bit :-0 at the expense.

(Have you thought about trying Anne Dee, the equine communicator? PM me if you want!)

Hurray, a reply!

Glad your horse is improving still. Its been a week tomorrow now and no improvement, in fact I think he might be getting worse again - grrrr. Dont think I'll be buying another tub.

Tried a animal communicator in desperation last year and it was a load of b*****cks! Not Anne but another well recommended one on this forum.

I am thinking about getting an Osteo as Philemania's horse has gone through a similar route to me and they found tight muscles in that area.

I really would try Anne!

Mine was up n down on the abprazole. Steady, sustained improvement on the Egusin. He really is a changed horse, & I don't think I'd have believed it unless I'd seen it!

Hope you get to the bottom of what's wrong with yours. My other horse has EPSM & when I was trying to find out what was wrong with him, I spent £5k on 3 different vets, every test under the sun including £3.5k during a 10 day stay at Rossdales, lots of alternative practitioners & I STILL didn't get a diagnosis, so I understand your frustration! (Anne knew what was wrong with him.)

Really hope you get some answers as I do *fully* understand what a PITA it is to have a horse that's 'wrong' but not properly diagnosed.

My friends horse probably took 2 weeks to start seeing subtle changes. Remember you still need an ulcer friendly diet in the mean time (low sugar/starch, ad lib hay etc).

We are now trying ulcerex though, because the horse refuses to eat feed, so have to have a liquid we can syringe in!

It's always been just girthing and saddling and tail swishing when rugging up. Although I haven't been able to ride him since he's come back from college I am sure he is ok to ride.
Will find out tomorrow. The saddling is worse I have to cross tie to get it anywhere near him, that can't be right.

Has ulcer friendly diet of Alfa A MFree, top spec anti lam, linseed oil. However have just bought a bag of Allen and Page ride and relax to get him to eat the Egusin. It is molasses fess, low sugar and says low starch but is actually 15% so not that low.

Not tried a lunging roller but I expect he is the same. He reacts if I run my hand down the line where a roller would go.

Only tried since coming off GG Aloe. Vera and Lifeforce. He was okay on this but still not great. And since then been on Egusin.

I've not heard of UL30REx, another one to check out! Does your mare seem okay now?

I will try an osteo too but don't know of one round me. Would a McTimony Practitioner be similar?

I do think you need an osteo, a McTimoney only really goes along the top of the spinal system. Mine had McTimoneys, normal chiro, physio and both osteos who saw her twigged the extent of it. Which side of Devon are you on?

UL30REX / Ulcerex is from Ron Fields Nutrition http://www.ronfieldsnutrition.co.uk/horses_UL30REX.htm
I'd call them though rather than order online as you want the Ulcerex PLUS which has additional glutamine, which doesn't appear on the website (don't ask me why!) Like I say, not a website I'd have bought from if it hadn't been recommended to me by someone who deals with a lot of horses!

ETA Mine does seem much happier - she was 90% there anyway and completely fine around the stomach and girth area, but had a little bit of reativeness further back in her barrell. The Ulcerex+ and Protexin Gut Balancer, plus cutting even more starch out of her food, seem to have got that last bit of reactiveness resolved. Now saddles quiet as a lamb. At the moment though she's not being worked because I went splat and broke my shoulder 6 weeks ago (spoon) so we'll have to see how it continues when she's back in proper work.

Thanks very much, you are a wealth of useful information to me!
I had a quick look at his website and I see what you mean!

I am South Devon, between Exeter andPlymouth.

Apparently he's just a complete nutrition / sports nutrition / nutraceuticals nut who used to work in a corporate setting but now does it for the love of it, hence not being very commercially savvy or slick.

I'd suggest giving Karen Robertson a call (Karen pronounced like Caaar-en) - she's based in Beaminster in Dorset but travels and may come your way... She was the first to spot the extent of mine's soreness (ie how widely spread it had become ie not just down her back) but didn't treat her as we were about to move and she thought it was better a new osteopath started the treatment from scratch. She doesn't have a website but if you google her she pops up on various listings...

Cheers, I'll give her a go. Nothing to lose other than hard earned cash and everything to gain.
Ah yes, I remember reading about your fall. How frustrating for you. Glad you are making progress with your mares problems though.

Hi :) The added ingredient is glutamine and I belive it also has a bit extra of the liver tonic incorporated. Glutamine's had good results on gastric ulceration, there's a fair bit around on the net about it. If you give them a call they'll gladly explain all :) It is a bit more expensive but it seems to depend whether you buy it directly or via a trimmer / physio / whoever. Oddly I paid more when I bought it direct, though I talked to the chap himself and apparently there's a woman who does the admin side of things and it's poss he got the price wrong! :? I'd give them a buzz :)

thanks, think we will see how he gets on with this batch and give htem a call if he seems to be improving.
how long has yours been on it, by the way? as its cheaper we are hopnig to keep him on it long term (think 6 months ish) as the egusin was good but couldnt keep it on him long term as the feed we were giving him was far less than ideal and he still wasnt eating!

Mine's been on it about 3.5 months now, I'm happy to use it long term because as you say it doesn't break the bank and lasts a long time...
