My puppy Alfie is now 12 weeks old

We started to walk him last week after his jabs but wondered what length of walks should we be doing with him at this age??? He has plenty of energy ( typical boxer completley mad ) and we would realistically like to walk him for as long as possible!!

Can they be walked for too long and would it do any harm on a young dog??

You should restrict walkies, my vet has told me 5 minutes per month of age

. This is particularly important with the larger breeds.

How you stop them looning about the house/garden at 100mph though I have yet to figure out - answers on a postcard please

You do have to be careful not to walk young pups for too long, as it can cause long-term damage to their joints. There is some sort of ratio of age in weeks to distance that can be walked, but I can't remember it - sorry! Any pics of your pup? We are on our second Boxer cross, and I do love Boxer pups!

a puppy should have just a couple of short walks a day and plenty of rest.

Dogs that are going to grow big like boxers should not have extensive exercise until they are much more mature. They souldn't do agility type stuff until 1 year - 18 months.

Too much forced exercise as a puppy will lead to bone and joint problems later on. Play is different - when he is tired he can go off to bed.

My little pup still sleeps quite a bit..she normally has a play in the garden in the morning then sleeps for a couple hours, she has about 20 minutes walk a couple of times a day. She probably runs a marathon the amount she sprints round the garden though!
