Just wondered, for those of you who sent your babies to a pro to back and start, how long where they away for?

I know it depends on the individual, just interested to hear your stories.

Thanks

Well i did back my youngster myself to begin with, taught him how to lunge and long line with saddle etc. then began riding him. After a few weeks of being ridden he had a bronco fit and started rearing. We sent him away to be rebacked and they have done it in 3 weeks.
The first week they got on him and walked around. the second week they were walking and trotting and took him out for a hack. the third week (at the moment) they are now cantering him and we are bringing him home on saturday :D
I think the norm is 4-6 weeks but it depends on how much you do with them before sending them away.

having had youngsters in to do and having sent some away it has varied from 2-10 weeks.

had you done any prep work before he went?

mine that have gone away have all had tack on, long rein well, been leaned over/sat on etc so are away for approx 2 weeks to be ridden on (i had no school and no-one to be my groundsman hence them going away).

when they come back they can walk and trot out hacking and thats about it- i don't like them in the school once they are safe for 6 months or so!

Our boy had been long reined and lunged (lightly) before he went to school. I know they all vary dependant on temp etc.

Never done it before as always done my own at home, but I am getting older ha ha :)
