Ok as question above really - I am looking to hack to an autumn hunt meet in a few weeks time as it is on a Saturday and my BF/amazing driver of horse transport works ! Most off the ride is on very quiet lanes but some (35%) is on a busy road - I'd like to know how long it will take me so I get my timings right for setting off - I don't want to be late and I don't want to be hanging around either as I won't be able to tie her up etc

Google maps say for me to walk it would take 50 mins

Thanks in advance

( I really need to do my trailer test - in fact I'm going to do the form now !! )

At my old yard we had a little "quick leg stretch" hack on roads which was 3 miles and could be done in anything from 25-40 minutes- the faster being with trotting and the slower being if i was on foot with my daughters pony

I wouldn't have thought it would take 50mins? Nearer 40 maybe, if you weren't going to be trotting anywhere.

I would, however, much rather be standing around for a while than be late, or just on time. I'd like to be organised and not panicked for when I get there. I'm sure there will be alot of other people sitting atop horses waiting for a little bit.

Thanks for this - I have just played about with the route finder and can do the whole route now on the small lanes that just adds on 0.1 of a mile so I will trot a little more than anticipated - I know my mare well and on busy roads she doesn't know she is not the best and can be a bit nappy when she is on her own I'm better where I can ride her forward. Hopefully she will also be a little more settled when she sees the hounds then too

Going to set off at 10 I think ready for a 11 start, stick her head collar and leadrope on over bridle and then at least I can tie her up and pop for a wee in the pub first. I was worried about her being a skizz as it's 5 years since we last hunted, she knows her job just finds it exciting - could be tempted by a calmer maybe before hand ( and maybe one for me too lol)

Walking all the way, I would allow (depending of course on the horse's normal walking speed) about 40 minutes to cover that distance. But I would leave an hour, as I like to have a little time to settle and get ready once I get to a venue, rather than having to rush straight into things.

Usual hacking to meets pace is 8 miles an hour,a mix of walk and trot;used to hack anything up to 12 miles to meets..and just pray hounds ran towards home! It is far better for your horse`s legs anyway.

I'd give myself 40 minutes but I'd get there faster than that.

Your best bet is to have a dry run and time yourself :D

Have fun.
