How long will this work for i wonder?

We feed hay in the field from round bale feeders and it gets pretty muddy surrounding it obviously...

This year we had an idea, and i spent a sunday afternoon last weekend laying out (attempting to!) rubber matting in the field about 5m square and we stuck the hay in the middle of that

So far so good! But i think the ground being a bit frozen is helping...

I have visions of the rubber matting coming unlocked and floating off in the mud after a while!

Hardcore? It took me 2 hours to do as it was! That's a no.... yeh i think it might float off in the mud too after a while! The question is how long!
