How long...

Ellie has (I'm pretty sure) been walloped by midget pony in the jaw. She has a lump which is no longer painful and quite hard but which doesn't seem to be going down...
 
My boy got kicked on the hind leg, above the hock and on a bony bit, not on a joint or any ligaments or tendons... it swelled massively at first and stayed up for about 2 weeks but then we x-rayed to find a chipped bone under there... from what looked like a really small shallow cut. How long has it been up?
 
Just over a week.... It was worse and painful at first. No cut just swelling. She was still tucking in to her food, just didn't want it touched. After 2 days she was happy for me to touch it and now she'll let me prod and poke. Its hard and I can cup my hand round it. She's eating, drinking, prancing etc..
Think I'll get the vet in to give it the once over....

There is a term "bruised bone" although it is not quite as we think literally.

Soj, it usually takes a couple of weeks for the blood to be reabsorbed and for the swelling to go down with injuries such as these; with the aid of anti-inflammatories of course. Presumably you have been giving bute to reduce the swelling and ease the pain?

sorry...didn't mean literally. Its just a term for bruising around a boney part ie jawbone
