...does a large round haylage bale last 4 (average size 15.2hh) horses out 24/7 in the field in winter?

or the same size bale for however many horses you have?

Just trying to get an idea as I'm looking to move yards and I spoke to someone at the yard I am hoping to move to and she says they are planning on feeding 1 a day. I was a bit gobsmacked because my understanding is that they contain about 6 normal sized bales of forrage and that would be about a bale and a half each in any 24 hours which seems a little excessive considering at least 2 of them look to be VERY good doers and there will be grass and mine is usually good on half to three quarters of a normal bale on NO grass.

Well that would last I think about 4 days. I nearly use one a week and I have three 15.2hh in the field (and a mini shetland). Depends on the quality though and how much your horses need.

Ahhh phew! didn't think I was going mad! I can see my boy's belly expanding to the size of a round bale within days!

Do you leave the bale in the field for them to pick at or do you take 'portions' off the bale and dish it out in the field?

one a day could get expensive!!!
I used them last winter, when my two were on their own 1 x 16.1 and 1 x16.3 it used to last around 4-5 days.
Whens shared with two greedy 14.2 ponies about 2 days if were lucky lol
