Hi

After quite a long break from having my own (been riding friends) I am now on the look out to buy again!

Very exciting, but was wondering would it put you off if a horse has been advertised for a while (3/4 weeks) and not sold? Or is that more a reflection of the current market?

Thanks
lara

the market is sloooooooooooow - dont let it put you off :) happy hunting

It wouldn't put me off, it puts you in a better position regards the price of the horse. My advise is to be cautious and don't believe what people tell you about the horse, unless you have actually seen it. Try it in every situation that is important to you. Having just been caught out and bought a horse that wasn't quite as described, I wish I had taken more time.

Hi Lara,

I have just been in the same position as you and it is a great time to purchase (although as it is a buyers market you do generally need to be quick). My horse had been on the market for over a month but that was due to 2 buyer defaults (one was for their child who started to misbehave and the other woman just kept stuffing the previous owners around with the vet check). Once I had put down the deposit, apparently he could have been sold at least 2 more times to via word of mouth.

The horse could be on the market for many reasons, perhaps the original asking price was too high? Buyer defaults? etc just make sure that if you do like the horse, have it vetted.

Thanks everyone

Have got my stable reserved and my finances sorted so can at least be quick if I need to be. Just got to find that elusive quiet all rounder now! At least I am small so can look at pony sized stuff too.

BigRed - hope your horse isn't too far away from what you wanted :(. Always a shame when not as described

I have a pony up for sale currently, hes been up about 3 weeks now, had a few misleading people viewing him, so nothing to do with himself!

Dont let it put you off, as i promise, its not always a bad thing [=
