do your turnout rugs last ? excluding needing to replace for rips etc.

Is it me or are gone of the days where a rug would last years ?

I admit I did not get mine cleaned and reproofed last year but they all seem to be leaking ! I have heard it is not good to keep re-proofing them as it stops taking affect.
 
hhhmmm maybe it is just me !!! I buy a well known make cause the fit my rather large horse really well and I am lucky if I get 2 years out of them !!! I might rig something up where he can't roll etc or go anything faster that a mouching walk !
 
My 21y-o welsh section c has had his Horseware Rambo Rhino Rug for 8 years! Only thing its needed is reproofed for winter which is pennies and the odd patch where the shetland eats it!

My 15.2hh has a Weatherbeeta Oricon Turnout and thats very heavy duty!
 
my fals are still going strong after 13 years. they have been washed and reproofed, patched if req, odd bit of velcro replaced. the rambos are now 9 and 10 years old and still going strong. a couple of shires have also lasted well 6/7 years. i am fortunate that i dont have any rug trashers or barbed wire. so whilst they were expensive initially they have worked out cheap in the long run. hopefully they will keep going for another few years.
 
My mum does rug repairs and I do my own washing and reproofing so all mine last quite long.
The longest lasting with the least maintance are Rambo, FAL. It depends on the denier of the fabric.
Some of my Masta's have started to leak so have been double re-proofed. I hate throwing rugs out though, so some of mine (weatherbeeta taka stable, lightweight) have not much orginal fabric left! (I love the fit of the rug but the fabric is rubbish!)
 
Most of mine seem to be lasting ok.

I have some Qualtex stable rugs (can't get them any more) that are 12 years old - they've got a couple of small holes in the lining but that's about it.

My Bucas turnouts are 6 or 7 years old and again they're fine - had to have a couple patched where they've been ripped when they've had a fight (TB likes grabbing hold of rugs at the withers and not letting go!).

My HW turnouts are Wugs / Wug pluses and a couple of Qualtex. Again these are about 7 years old and have just had to be patched after arguements!!

Did buy a couple of well know but cheaper rugs 3 years ago and TBH they've just about had it now and they've not been treated any differently.
