A good pal of mine fetched my old girl in today as it was rather nasty weather - she gave her a section of hay. Very kind thought, very kind deed.........

My knife was in the hay section that was given to her and thankfully she has enough sense not to play with it - she even glared at me and then her hay as if to say "whats this mum" .... now i take every precaution i can with my knife it has several pieces of yellow and red baler twine attached to it (yes i am compusive after loosing a knife once before) and i always jab it in my hay.
I now have a new place for knife i have made a "sheath" for it in the handle of one of my feed bins.

phew !

Woops! Have been there before almost

I know what you mean the times I've taken a knife in the stable to cut the bag with shavings in and popped it on the ledge and when I can't find it to cut the apples, it dawns on me where I last had it. He's also very good and never plays with it!

Thats another one! Knives/ scissors on the ledge

That, or I put them on my back ledge, lay my bed so that is perfectly straight and flat and then realise where it is. It kills me to walk across it to retrieve it

Crushes me every time

I use another piece of binder twine to cut the string on my bales - I've left far too many knives around in my time.

Just get a longish piece of twine (at least a metre), thread it under the bale string and 'saw' it pulling against the bale twine.

Phew! I had one of those moments the other week when neddy was tied up and knocked a hoof pick onto the floor. Somehow it landed sticking up!

Luckily I came out of the tack room just as he did it and noticed it so made a swift dive for it before he trod on it!

CM - that's how I open my bales too, with baler twine

Had a very (OOps!!) experience with a knife once, and ended up taking the whole bed out!!!

That was lucky!

On Monday one of the other liveries lost her phone. We phoned her number to see if we could find it - lo and behold a musical haynet!!!

Lucky for her she was in the queue behind me for soaking it - she nearly had a beautifully soaked mobile phone

Oh Fleabite, that's EXACTLY me too! My lush deep litter bed is immaculate (I really resent Sunny coming in to spoil it) and then I spot my Stanley knife on the back ledge and I have to walk across the bed. AAAAAAGH!!!!
