I havent a clue!! I start off with 3 huge barrow loads of straw. He's really clean, so usually take out two trugs of muck a day, then re do with 2 trugs. which I guess would be about 1/2 a bale.
yes, love making a nice big fresh bed!!! We get ad lib straw at our yard so her bed tends to be very big but no idea how much fits in as we use sections of big bales...
Oh my goodness, my bed must be big or I have a very very dirty horse (I knew he was dirty but not that bad).
I leave my banks up and just add to them. He is on deep litter all week so just remove poo and a small bit of wet. I add 2 1/2 bales through the week. But at the weekend I take all deep litter out, there is usually quite a bit of clean so I leave that in and add a further 2 1/2 bales. So in all 5 bales of straw each week. Sometimes I can manage on 4.
I have to add though our bales are not that huge and its not the nice fluffy straw is rather flat.
His bed doesnt ever seem to look huge though. I think its because I deep litter it so its all compact down and he is a big horse so it gets really flat where he lies on it.
The only time it looks big is when I give it a full muc out at the weekend. If I do a full muck out each day I get 2-3 barrows out, hence the deep litter!!

I would say you get about 3 large sections to 1 standard bale
I probably put in 1 standard bale a day or every other day depending, her bed is VERY huge!!!
...
Also read an article the other day about horses sleeping habits and that they appear to prefer nice big clean beds to sleep in so I believe I am doing the right thing (mine always lies down as the straw is always pressed down and she has straw in her tail)
