Just a quick BE Q. How many events at pn/novice would you recomend max. in a season. I did 5 at pn last year but missed 7 through cancellation/horse injury. Just wanting to know how much people do.
Usually do 2 or 3 a month initially then down to 1 a month when ground is hard.
Depends if she is chasing a qualification or not, hopefully later in season if horses still fit and well will move up a level.
Last year pony and Bee did 9 BE PN and N mixed plus 2 PC open ODE (Nov equiv) plus area teams in eventing SJ and Tet.
Also did BSJA over winter (winning or placed at all events) and JAS including the final
WE don't overwork our horses at home, just keep them ticking over to keep the mileage down, also rarely jump at home unless theer is a problem.
PN 10-13 Runs per Season
NOVICE 10 per Season but less if you are doing a 2 day
INTERMEDIATE 6-8 per Season if you are doing 3 days
I would always have at least 2 weeks between each PN event.if you run then every week you are running a very high risk of tendon and other problems in the future
We will do one every three weeks, it may work out we do less due to holidays etc and as we are progressing to Novice this year Duke will probably have a holiday too
Got 12 in the diary - its my first season and I am not sure whether to get full membership for me and the boy or day ticket. Probably day ticket for the first few....no point in shelling out for membership if we are clearly outclassed!
Yeah.,...not bad. Dressage - good on a good day...bad on a bad day! XC - always fantastic! SJ - not uncommon for us to roll a pole but getting better all the time! We are normally placed at unaff and we've completed MK3DE twice (finished 14th in May and 11th in Sept).
Sarah is nice and realistic - yes we will get round, yes we might get a few placings but (i) we will never move up (intro will be our peak) and (ii) I'm not to expect 1st place everytime!
Ho hum...current plan is to do Intro this season, hunt and have fun at unaff this winter then sell/loan/share him next spring and get something else. Its a miracle we've come this far...when I got him in 2004 he had never jumped or been to a comp and given that he is a cranky ex flat racer he has been a bu**er to retrain! (sorry for hijacking this thread!)
Well I have 12 in my online BE Events Diary. They are pretty much all the Scottish BE things this year (except any near the borders / south of Glasgow as its too far for me!).
Last year I did 7 with my main horse: 1 OPN and 6 Novices. And I did 1 event with my other horse (an Intro).
This year I plan to get the younger horse out to 3 or 4 intro's (on day tickets) and do the rest with my main horse.
