Just wondering how many proper bucks in a row anyone has ever sat to, I was riding one of my recently backed youngsters last night - he has had 3 days off as ive been busy with work, he felt a bit sharp when I got on and messed about a bit - thought to myself get him going forward and he'll settle...... fine till we got to canter - he shortend and shortened till the front end dissappeared and then everything went bumby!

my friend was videoing it on her phone so I could see how he moved and we counted 13 then he turned his head and dropped his shoulder and then all I remember is thinking "flipin sugar" (or similar!) im sitting on his bloody neck then eating grass. The video is on her phone so as soon as she emails it I will try and post it - should be a laugh for you all! the funniest bit is me getting up and adjusting myself! a bit sore today i have to say!!

i came off a youngster a couple of years ago, 3 hump back rodeo bucks, a short gallop, pulled him up, 3 more big ones, another gallop, about 3 more, got my feet out of the stirrups and was jumping off when he pulled sideways and I landed on my hip. If I hadn't been riding out with a very nervous rider (who slid off hers at the first sign of trouble) I would have ridden him through it and could have continued to sit the leaping and plunging. She has been in the horse business 40 odd years and said she had rarely seen such massive bucks

Hmmmm I think it depends on the bucks lol!

My last horse had a very nasty habit of taking advantage dreadfully if you took a moment too long to get your feet in the stirrups after mounting. He'd bronk until you came off.

The longest I survived (with one stirrup) was a full length of the school and round the corner at the bottom- I then remember looking through his ears as his head was tucked right between his legs and hit the floor pretty much immediately. Don't remember how many bucks it was, probably only 4 or 5 the way he was launching himself

There was a brand new (nervous novice) livery in the arena at the time and I still remember the look of pure horror on her face lol

I rode a horse once, and we shot through the centre of the school at fast speed lol and getting some mad crazy broncs/bucks. I sat about 9 of them dont know how horse has no front at it is, Eventually come off when horse dropped shoulder and spun while is was in mid air, Really was no hope at all

depends hugely on the bucks! My lad doesn't ever get to the unseating stage but he'll bounce around for ages if everyone else has cantered off and he's not allowed to give chase! I'll sit to no end of those....but the killer is when they twist. My older mare used to really go for it when she was a youngster, she'd but 2/3/4/5 times twisting one way, right up to the handstand stage, then she would suddenly twist the other way!! No one ever managed to stay on when she really decided it was time for them to go....had all sorts of people say they had ridden all sorts of horses and could sit to anything...yeah, right!

Depends on the bucks, though I had one mare that would bronc like mad, if we were in the school I would survive half a circuit and give up. Yet if I was on the same mare out hacking she never managed to get me off no matter what. I was seriously refusing to budge and land on concrete as I knew the consequences would not be pretty!

im pleased you all said that - was feeling a bit of a plonka!!!

Its wierd when I caught him -( he went off herding sheep by himself for 10 mins) i walked him to the next field to let him get his breath back, resisted the urge to bat him one, got back on and he was fine, walk trot canter halt etc no problem, a bit spooky but nothing too bad - im thinking i might lunge him first next time he has had a day off!

I agree it is the twists that get you, I had one years ago that had also perfected dropping one shoulder

I used to have a pony who had the dropping one shoulder technique down to a fine art... little sod!

it really depends. if they're the still-going-forward-in-a-straightish-line ones, lots and lots. if they're the real spin-round-on-the-spot-while-broncking ones, not so many.
one of my youngsters started the first ones while cantering across the stubble once. no problem, i sat about 20, but i could see we were getting closer and closer to the edge of the newly ploughed bit, which makes a little trench. sure enough, the moment he suddenly saw it in front of him, he managed to shoot backwards in the middle of a buck, and i ended up sitting on thin air.

my big WB spooked so violently last winter while cantering along sedately out on a hack that i shot in the air and landed behind the cantle, half off to the side. he then started bucking like stink (not surprisingly really) and i nearly let go, but then realised that if i came off the back while he was doing that (and he really really does buck for Britain) he'd probably take my teeth out, so i clung on and eventually he stopped, thank god.
one of mine tried bucking me off once while out on walking-only-tendon-repair, and i looked down and saw his ears between my feet, and heard his heels click together over my head. only the terrified realisation that if he dropped me, he'd gallop home and end up in a dogmeat can, kept me on.

They started as the straight line ones and gradually turned into the dead stop shoulder in one!

ive no idea why he did it, he does buck if im wearing a long coat or put a numbner thats too long on him and it touches his back behinfd the saddle, no idea why as he isnt sore. he was a little swine to rug up the first time to!

oh and i better admit to cheating i did manage to grab the neck strap after the first 3! Just got the vid on email - anyone any ideas how to post it its 3.5MB?

Depends on the horse.

Chessy has bucked me round the entire school and I still was there and finding it funny.

Cairo has bronced me once about 4 huge bucks - a clydie has a massive backside and on the very rare occasion he is an naughty old bugger - head between the knees and as soon as heels hit the floor he is up again.and I must admit No 5 may have finished me off, but I luckily got his head up and whip on bum and moving.

Chancer did three massive screw bucks (luckily only the once so far) - my problem was that I held onto the neck strap and ended up on voltarol for six months due to pulled elbow and wrist joints - should have done what I did on No 4 - let go!

Fleur used to rear, land, buck, land and then do all four feet straight up - like a harrier taking off. I could sit two of this sequence, but then used to jump off and give her backside a taste of Mr Whippy before she did No 3 - never wanted her to know she could get me off.

One that got me off every time was Pedro the donkey - my nana's "little pet". Something about the horrible beast that meant I was on my bum after a couple of bucks - might have been that I rode him bareback a lot of the time.

my last one had it down to an art! i knew what he was going to do but i still couldnt sit to him, bronc's 3 times drops left shoulder spins to the right and i hit the deck... every time!! i sat to 4 once which i was really proud of!

I reckon my last horse did nice, straight comfy bucks. Once he had me off, as he went round the short side and finally lost me on the second corner, I just managed to cling on enough to miss the fence so I could land on sand, and also managaed to give a him a nice yank in the mouth as I left him to tell him that's not on! Other times, I'd usually sit to around 4 and then stop him.

My friend, who is an "I" was bucked off in a one last week, that horse just does one enormous one and that's all anyone can take before they're sailing through the air.

I they are very variable!

Oh gosh, i had a mare who used to do exactly the same sequence. the first time she dropped me instantly, i was taken so unawares, but after that i was ready for it and lots of yelling NO! at her would make her stop. eventually. very very naughty. she'd squeal in temper as she did it too.

not many, so far flash has been too lazy to do more than 2 or 3! Managed a lap of the school on my old loan horse once, she would be quietly walking round then plunge forward, bucking, twisting, dropping shoulder, she really meant it and would not give up until she had you off. It really depends on thr type of buck, when they really mean to throw you on the floor you don't have much hope!

depends on the buck as others have said. The straight line ones aren't too bad, once you get your legs forward and your heels down you're usually ok. But the buck and spin ones aren't so fun.

Was assessing a pony for the riding school the other day (bout 12.2hh). Nappy little thing, it was cantering a 20m circle, decided it had had enough and proceeded to spin and buck and spin and buck. Luckily I managed to stay on it although it was close. My boss just sat on a jump laughing. All he said to me was "well, that would have had most of your 10:30s off, wouldn't it?". He is so unsympathetic

only one of mine buck and i can sit 7 bareback on him and he has yet to get me off when i have a saddle (not ruleing it out, there have been a few times when i thought he would)

In my stock saddle - can sit anything until they get tired, as long as they don't rear up vertical.

With a saddle, I could sit around 6 between the head rodeo style with alternative shoulder dropping. Give me a grab handle on the front of the saddle and my odds improve!!!

whe i rode a youngster that Pat had in for schooling it did not want to canter and rodeoed good and proper in every corner of the school. I managed to stay on for about 7/8 corners then pat told me to get off coz she didn't want me to get hurt.

So she got on it then it did exactly the same with her!

depends what kind of bucks...

have sat goodness knows how many on munto behind the saddle after an incident mounting in the field
smirk.gif

and sat 5 of jakes (hes a sod!) going down the main road

but sometimes two in quick sucessiion or twisty darty ones and thats me in a heap

depends on who is bucking lol.
generally with my mare i either end up managing to stop her bucking and send her on or i come off(cos she doesnt stop)
her bucks are flippin awful to sit to(rodeo type things) so not much else gets me off
