Aaarrrggh, i wrote a really long post but i deleted it! :( I have posted a similar thread in comp riders some weeks ago, but got no answers!

So, briefly:

First show needing transport, with pony i've had for 2/3 months, but is being sold later this year. This means i won't have many other shows to do with him, and this is a rare "proper" trip out as don't have transport, so want to get as many classes as i can without being unfair on him.
Mentally prepared (am i allowed to walk him round a nearby be90/100 lorry park later this week?)

Shows am eligible for:
Whp 2ft6
Show jumping 2ft 9
Handy pony (not meaning to be rude at all, but is it worth it for a pony and rider who are not a novice partnership, ie is it a bit of a wasted entry fee for a simple class?)
Tack and turnout (this is ridden isn't it?)
Best condition
Second pony (i'm 14, is these classes full of 11 year olds?!)
Mountain and moorland ridden/led ( how tiring are these classes, is there much standing around, or is it quiet quick even if you get in the final line up?)
Best rider (is this normaly a "short" class, it says will be required to jump a small jump?)

Gymkhanahs- can anyone explain some of these, as not totally clued up on what is invovled, do you have to dismout/remount in any of these?
Class 19: Egg and Spoon Race

Class 20: Potato Race

Class 21: Canter, Trot, Walk

Class 22: Bucket Elimination

Class 23: Musical Sacks

Class 24: Consolation Race

Also, what colour trousers should i wear when leading? Chestnut pony in sig, with a few short socks, i was thinking black trousers?

Thanks to anyone who can answer any of my many questions!

I'll have a go!
First of all you need to look at the schedule and circle the classes that you might want to do. Then look and see if they might clash if you gave them the same amount of estimated time.
Why not pick classes that you could have the same turnout for eg WHP and MM would mean the same clothes and then you could just change your trousers for the IH class. You should ideally wear trousers that are a diffrent shade to the horse's legs, so with a chestnut you could go black as you say or much lighter!
The MM ridden would be a go round with the rest of the class in walk trot and probably canter. You then get lined up and do a show which should last just long enough to show paces on each leg-don't bore the judge! You then usually walk round again and the judge will pull you in.
Tack and turnout is usally ridden but if you are doing other showing classes then your turnout should be high enough to do this class too. you can usually 'pop in' for this class as well within a certain time scale.

does this help?

The WHP class would be the longest (that's if you get through after the jumping) so if you really want to go for that I wouldn't do too many other classes.

Handy pony usually involves things like posting a letter, running through tyres, opening/closing gate, hang up washing etc. so it doesn't matter what sort of partnership you and your pony have.

Tack and turnout can be either inhand or ridden so I would contact the secretary to make sure if it's just ridden or both.

Second pony class is as it says. If your pony is your second pony you are eligible not matter how old you are :)

If you want to do M&M as well (I take it yours is an M&M!) you could take him inhand so he won't have to do as much work in the ring (basically two trot ups instead of collective walk/trot/canter and an individual show if you ride him).

Best rider class -Not sure what you mean by a 'short' class, but it depends on how many are entered as to how long the class will take. You will probably be asked to jump the jump as part of your individual show.

Not too sure about the gymkhana races but if you're unsure just contact the secretary and I'm sure they will be able to help :)

I would personally say light trousers as he has mainly dark legs but you can also wear your jodhpurs (canary/beige etc.) in inhand classes.

Hope this helps a bit!

are you going to try ALL these classes ? - If so I would warn Pony now!

Best Rider - I have never jumped in a best rider class - more and individual show - ensure you get a really fluid extended trot across the diagonal, dont forget your salutes and reinback and a nice square halt.

WHP - Small jumping course again individual show.

I used to change outfits for these 2 classes as i needed 2 different jackets.

Handy Pony - bit of fun!
