How many days a week do you work your horses?

5-6 days a week. As she is in at the moment due to the foul weather I try to ride every day. Today she was totally on her toes, mummy, can I canter? What about now? How about on this corner? Mummy can I canter please? Please mummy, now? Okay then off you go!

4-6 days per week depending on what we do. 6 if it's a nice easy week, like hacking and basic schooling, 4 if it's really miserable and/or we do harder schooling / jumping :)

Every day at the moment apart from the odd day I take off for myself, when it is term time for me at uni she gets ridden every day bar mon/tues as they are my lecture days. But in the summer with the longer days she will get ridden then too x

At the moment, only 2 days per week, weather dependant. I dot drive yet and get the bus twice a day (DIY). So my 2 days off he gets exercised. Probably less now were coming to the horrible weather and the schools bogged out and the roads are icy. Come the summer, hopefully I'll be driving and can exercise him after work on the evenings, or evening lunge him before work in the am.
Just need to pass the bloody test. *sigh*

In the summer 6 days a week, however during this winter I myself have found just schooling and not much opp for venturing further a field/dark nights a bit boring and I've been conscious about my mare getting stale so have tend to ride 5 days a week and bit more chill time, however she still seems super fit!

I try to aim for 4-5 days a week, however mine has had a mini holiday since before Christmas now - it's just been too windy and our school is flooded :( we have a competition this weekend so if I don't get to ride him before then, it should be interesting to watch....

4-5 in winter (due to light) and 5-6 times per week in summer. Vary work between schooling, hacking and lungeing. Try to jump at least once a fortnight in spring/summer. She likes working and routine, but is fine with not being ridden for a couple of days. She has been on her toes the last couple of weeks though - think it is the wind!

6 summer and winter. I think it important to have one rest day a week. Sometimes ride twice a day in the summer though when I'm on hols ;-). Tends to have Monday off as will have had longer hacks or sometimes competitions at weekend.

oops.. didn't realised it had posted. :o

Big lad is currently worked
5 days a week but has a been a terror and has tried to take off with me a few times so wondering if the exercise needs upped.

It used to depend entirely on the weather but at a yard with an indoor school now :D
Currently both get at least 25 mins a day of exercise (usually free schooling) as they're in due to foul weather and mud fever. One has just come back from the vets and is needing to follow a work programme so she will be doing light work a few times a week and the other is a 4 year old that needs to get cracking so will make the effort to ride her alot more and increase length of time ridden! She'll probably start being ridden in the afternoons as well as free schooled in the mornings for 1/2 hour.

I try to aim for 5 summer and winter but at the moment i only seem to be riding 3-4 days due to the weather! However he is only 4 so i don't think being in lighter work is doing him any harm.

Competition horses are in work 5-6 days a week normally, the young ones (3/4yos that have just been backed this year are hardly ridden now, think we will turn them away for a few months and get the worst of the weather out the way!)

Try to do 6 days, 3 days schooling/lesson and 3 days hacking but don't worry if I can't manage it. I was away for a few days over Xmas so he hadn't been ridden for nearly a week, despite it being very windy he hacked out sensibly. I like him to have plenty of exercise to keep his fitness level up and his weight down rather than to manage his energy.

As many as possible! Mine has energy fizzing out of his ears at the moment! I try to do 2 hacks/trip to gallops at weekend, then do something for an hour in my friends arena in the dark the other 5 days. I mix up loose schooling, garrocha stuff, dressage, trick training and lunging to stop us getting sour. Hard to fit in jumping in winter due to daylight so I have to stick it at the end of a hack. He isn't meant to be doing much work at the moment but he is obnoxious if left unexercised...even though he gets at least 8hrs proper turnout a day!

6 days a week normally, but the last month it has been too dark after school for the girls to ride,so we have been limited to weekends.Hopefully by the end of this month it'll be light enough again.

Over winter I only ride at the weekend so 2 times a week, unless I am on annual leave of course, come summer it can be 4 times a week, I am a happy hacker, only do schooling out hacking really

This time of year we do 2 schooling sessions in the week then hack out sat and sun. I still carry on with lessons during the winter and usually have a lesson at the weekend. In the summer we have fortnightly lessons, I will school maybe once a week and the rest is hacking. We also do a fair few comps and clinics.

Aim for about 5 days each in both summer and winter as fits in around shift work. Takes more managing in winter though with 2 to exercise.
