How many different Instructors have you had ?

I have had two instructors over the past three years. The first one I had was terrible and have had second now for about a year and a half. I don't feel as if we are getting any further forward now but feel so guilty about looking elsewhere for someone who can teach me as well as my horse.

How many instructors have you had over the years? Am I just being paranoid ? I know some people who are really good friends wth their instructors and use them even though they don't really seem to be making any progress. They use lessons as catch up sessions which is fine if you want that.

I don't want instructor to think I am blaming her for my faults or anything , it's just I don't look forward to lessons any more , don't know what I'm supposed to be doing and am not given any pointers to work on in between lessons. Also instructor can never remember what we did last lesson even though we have them every week.

Instructor has really helped us so far but wanted to know if I seem to be going through instructors like a knife through butter !

Really interesting point. I have been using the same person now for about 2 years, and thought she was good as each time the horse seemed to go well - however I found it hard to reproduce the same results when schooling on my own. Recently I have had just 2 lessons with someone else and the horse has gone better than in 2 years of my old instructor. I still don't manage to get quite the same effect on my own but I expect it will take more lessons for me to get into the way of thinking without him actually being there.

Where are you in the country?

Definitely worth trying someone else or attending a clinic away from home just to see if it makes a difference. You can always switch back.

Forgetting some riding school stuff many years ago daughter has had 3 instructors over the last 4-5 years.

One was a flatwork/dressage instructor & taught her & her then new boisterous horse so much & we will be forever grateful for the work he did. She then had a jump trainer, he was a pro showjumper, nice rider & nice person but they didn't hit it off as trainer/pupil. She then found another jump trainer who is fantastic, has jumped for GB, won abroad & is highly qualified & they get on well. Daughter has progressed well but as usual everything has a downside......the trainer is 50 miles away

Normally we arrange for her to go & stay over a weekend & have several lessons & this works & it isn't as expensive as you would think, she is really reasonable
