how many horses did you look at...

With my girl we looked at 8, then bought one we knew that came up for sale through our yard when we had just about given up hope. Our new youngster was horse no 11. Again we had peole not turn up to viewings, phone us at the last minute to cancel, horses not at all as described, and some very dodgy sounding stories!.

The right horse will always come along in the end!

Castle was the first pony I went to view, I instantly fell in love with him. When I was looking for a horse, I went to have a look at one yard to see what was available, as a friend was buying a horse there. I wasn't too serious about buying then but I didn't see anything I liked. Ali was the first horse I went to look at when I was very serious about buying, I instantly fell in love with him as well, we just clicked when I tried him!

I almost bought the first and ninth ones I saw, then I did acually buy the tenth! My YO kept telling me to wait until I knew which horse was "The One" and I thought it would never happen, but I knew instantly that Maiden was right and had decided to buy her 30 seconds after I met her - literally! Then I was sensible and actually had a look at her and rode her, had her vetted and that was that!
I'm hoping I can cut it down when I start looking again next year though, as now I know what I'm looking for (Maiden was the first horse we'd properly looked for so we weren't very experienced horse buyers then).

Looked at about 10 but called up about loads and ended up going to look at one and falling in love with the one next door and buying him even though he was much younger than I wanted, had no experience, was out of my budget and bolted and bucked with me when I rode him.... I love him to pieces now tho and totally made the right decision!!

I went and saw one and had a few brought over to the yard for me to try. I knew my boy was the one for me as soon as they told me about him. I'd mentally bought him 2 weeks before he actually arrived for me to try!

Oh golly - dozens! Well, I didn't actually go and see them all, but got pics and videos of lots of colts and sent them to my 'mentor' for approval - then went to see a fair few - my mother drove me to Arab studs all over Belgium, then looked at more back in the UK...

Finally saw and fell in love with Tobago - my dream-horse.

Only trouble was that he was most emphatically Not For Sale - but eventually I managed to cajole and persuade and harass his owners into letting me buy him.

I find it fascinating that so many people go out looking for a particular type, age, breed etc of horse and end up buying something completely different! What's that about?!!

otto was the second horse we went to see ,actually we dropped into a yard on the off chance they might have some for sale, as horse we had arranged to go and see was lame when we arrived and owner hadnt got a clue.
we wanted a horse that had been there and done it as ash was coming off a 13.3hh and needed a 16 hh due to her really long legs .we ended up with an 8 year old horse that had done nothing but had a fantastic temperament.
meg was the third or 4th one we looked at, she was on the same yard as two of the others.

I looked at loads and loads on the net, travel far and wide and the horse was never as said in the advert. had 3 vetted 2 failed and brought the 3rd.. lot of dishonest peolpe out there...
