Nothing is charged extra as there are no extras, no staff.
The yard owner is a busy critical care nurse.
Whta we do do is job share, for example, this week YO in on nights, i have done horse for for her and she will do Ted a couple of times next week wehn ineed help.
I travel about 10 to 15mins but this is close to my parents so they turn timmy out for me in the morning and we do an evening shift at weekends........no extra costs!
My yard is an assisted DIY about 10 miles away from home, 3 miles from work.
turnout weekday is £1.50
bring in weekday is £1.00
turnout weekend is £2.00
bring in weekend is £2.00
full livery for the day is about £10 I think
field check is £1.00
I did move the end of last year cos my horse wasn't happy and the other yard was closer to home, and had excellent hacking, but I ended up moving back again with my new horse and am so relieved that I did as I am much happier, even though the hacking is pants!
Thanks. Hippyned, does the bringing in include picking out feet and rug change?! We are thinking of going back to our old yard and can't remember her extras prices (and can't go up twice a day as it's so much further from work). It is £16 a week with free use of indoor and outdoor schools, turnout in single sex herds. I'd make sure all jobs are done in the morning so she's only bringing in or turning out at night, depending if summer or winter. I reckon that if say it's £1.50 per day for bringing in then that's £3 per horse, £21 per week on top of £16 each livery (£32+£21=£53) and won't be travelling as much as only once a day... so we'd actually be better off. No paying for using someone else's school either. Hmmmm.

It includes feet and rug change - we have a 'sling in' rate as well, which is just bringing the horse in and nothing else, think that is 50p, not sure.
Our yard is 4 miles away and there are no extras as YO works full time and there are no staff. However, if I need my horses looking after for me she will do it to help me out. Likewise, if she goes on holiday or is out for the day I will look after her horses for her
My first yard was 21 miles away and took 25 mins on a good day and almost 2 hours on a bad day. DIY but paid livery £5 per day (but I prepared all feeds and haynets). Good turnout and ok facilities - by far my favourite yard and would still be there but for new (crazy) livery wanting to put her mare in with my very riggy boy.
Second one was 17 miles away - 25 mins on a good day, 1 hour on a bad day. 5 day livery £100pw.
Third one was 37 miles away - 45 mins on a good day, 2 hours on a bad day. 5 day livery £100pw (but excellent facilities and care).
Fourth one 22 miles away - 30 mins on a good day, 45 mins on a bad day. 7 day livery £110 per week - ok facilities and good care
Jobs will vary but I have found that it is usually £2.50 for t/o, £1.50 for rug change, £1.00 for boots, £3.00 to bring in, £0.50 to pick out feet, £1.50 to wash feet. £1.00 to put in feed & hay, £0.50 for water. £1 to prepare feed/haynet.
It soon mounts up and daily rates are usually £8-£12. Maybe you could sort out helping out another livery (if possible)?
CBAnglo, it might be possible. A lot of our horsey friends are on this yard and we only left because we bought a second horse (6 years ago - wow, is it that long!?) and it was so far. The new yard was opposite my husband's workshop where he worked. He no longer works there, but we stayed because we liked it, then moved because of the builder.
As you know from my other thread, current yard is taking the peepee. It is quite close to home and convenient for both our jobs, but we're not happy. They charge £25 a week, so £9 more than yard we want to go back to, but obviously we will need extras on latter yard, so will mount up! It is possible that occasionally our close friends R and J will do it, but again, she works shifts like mine so difficult. Will have to see.
I think we do have to move. Husband is kinda caving in (not caving in but agreeing with me!), but says we are not having matting refitted if we move back there, just in case we move again or he decided we will use his mum's land. Bit annoying as means I will use a lot more bedding, but I think I'm going to put G on straw next year (which is free to us as we are going to make our own) anyway. Will just have to suck it and see.
Sounds like you had some very long journeys to your yardS!
Can you put the mats down without sealing them? Sorry, I dont know what kind of mats you have but they sound really expensive! I could have bought my mats for the price of moving yours twice!
Jobs have a way of working themselves out in the end and even if you have to pay the yard to do it, it will still probably be cheaper than paying £25 for a yard with no facilities.
