how many of u keep your horses out 24/7?

All mine live out.....3 yr old TB, TB/ID, Welsh B and old show pony (25). All rugged accordingly (little welshie only rugged when raining!).

All come in in the morning for brekkie and a haynet and chucked out again.

Perfectly happy.......

Don't feel guilty - I'm sure most horses would prefer to be out 24/7. My 18 yo WB lives out with a blanket clip and a nice sturdy hw combo rug - he is much happier out than in. Grass is still good, so I'm only just starting to pop a couple of wedges of hay out and up his fast fibre a little bit. When we get into minus temps I shall pop a thermatex under but he is happy as larry.

My boy lives out all year round, used to bring him in over the winter but he gets very cranky, and gets very fizzy unless worked hard. He's out in his heavyweight rug now and seems fine, very well behaved to ride and less nippy than he would be if he was in the stable!

Horses usualy cope absolutely fine when its cold and dry. Its persistant wet weather that they don't like.
All mine live out whatever the weather though. Thats a TB, a couple of cobs, a Connie, a Welshie and a shettie. All naked atm.

Mine are for the first time this year and I really don't know why I didn't do it sooner! I have stables and when I have brought them in for an hour or so on an afternoon when its been very wet, they have just wanted to be back outside again!

Ditto!

Tb who is 20 years old, wbxtb who is 3½ years old and tbx who is 2½ years old, are all out in a 5 acre field. It has a large shelter and some natural shelter around the field too. I started giving them a bucket 1st November and they've been rugged up since end of November. They also have plenty of hay morning and night to nibble on now the grass is low.

I've found that they are more easier to handle and appear happier living like this, they were stabled for alot of last winter and aqcuired some bad habits but now they are changed horses! lol

As long as you have enough land for them to live out on it's so much cheaper and less work. The downside is, I'm less active now and have piled on the pounds!

All of mine live out, including the TBs. Rugged accordingly and can come in if needed. They dont actually like coming in though!

My ISH lived out too before he was sold

Loved being out & was cranky whenever he was in, especially if the rest were out. Assuming the grazing holds up through winter (looking a bit like a bog atm!) the next one shall live out too.

I used to feel guilty about it too, especially at night if i could hear it raining, but they seem to do much better out than in.

My two Arabs and one donkey live out 24/7. Provided they're well rugged, have good shelter (natural or field shelter) and plenty of hay, most horses thrive on being out all the time. Mine come in to feed sometimes and can hardly wait to get back out again when finished.

My TB and my 25yro pony live out 24/7.
The TB is rugged up and this is his first winter living out but he is loving it and doing very well. My show pony used to be a wimp when I bought him and would need rugging up at the first sign of a slight breeze *rolls eyes* he now resembles a yack his coat is so long, will take off any rug put on him and doesn't like being stabled half as much as being left outside.

If I didnt just loan my pony and owned him, he would be out 24/7 but owner has other ideas ... although the yard does only have 3 horses, a TB ex racer and a very old scraggy pony that wont live out ... id still prefer him to be out though

Mine liv out but do have a huge barn to go in and as they please. All rugged up and fed at night, but have hay 24/7. Manage fine and def dont get any slimmer!!!

My TB is living out for the second year running. His personality is just so much more relaxed and happy, and he is rugged up so i'm very happy he's out

I've got four ponies that live out though I have stables - a 17yo with Bone Spavin that is stiffer if stabled, a TBx and two Shetlands. They get plenty of hay and the two bigger ones get a feed in the evening and are rugged accordingly.

They occasionly come in if it is very wet or if I have a late lesson etc - they don't mind this but overall prefer to be out.

Mine are all happier in this colder, drier weather than in the milder, wet weather

Me. And he has only got a no fill rainsheet on. And he has no food and I'm not haying him yet. Aren't I a horrible mummy!

Not horrible, just really lucky, I am envious

Out 24/7 except when little grass in field he comes in to fill his face overnight, he prefers to be out, I think jumping the stable door twice said it all

Mine are, ranging from minis, through 6 month QH filly to 19 yo arabian.

Rugs off today, sunbathing in -10C. Temperature is relative though, for the last three days we have had howling gales taking the temp down to the -20's. So, today is warm

I will never, ever, keep horses stabled regularly just because I can again., I have 10 empty stalls

Absolute bliss not having to muck out or have to fret because they are in and need to go out, or out and need to be bought in. No guilt involved at all.

Everything of mine is out 24/7 including two tb's. They all are quite content at staying out, although if i had mine in i think it would be like riding a ticking time-bomb! lol

Mine! 18 month coblet, TB, 2 welshies - all out 24/7 natural shelter, 2 bales of hay and alot of mud! the only one not too happy is the TB, having stables in the spring so hopefully no more winters out for her!

My pony is a stable jumper so he has to live out - he seems to prefer being out and even when it is pouring with rain all the ponies stand in the middle of the field grazing and not in the shelter.

However he is on good grazing and is rugged as he is blanket clipped. He is a very good doer as well.
