when i posted about allmost bein hit by a car a few weeks ago someone mentioned riding listening to ipods,

so i was just wondering how many people do that??

i listen to my ipod when schooling in the field sometimes i use the beat of the song to my advantage plus it helps me to relax. but i would never dream of using it when out hacking on the roads or in the forrest or anything. it seems like a very irrisponsible thing to do

I wouldn't listen to it out hacking (I need to concentrate otherwise the Moose decides its time to schedule a dismounting lesson!) but I do listen to music while I'm working in the school. I find it relaxing, and like you, sometimes i use the beat of the song to help with speeding up or slowing down the pace.

i've never seen someone use them out hacking but someone brought it up in one of my posts, something like how we could be mad at drivers but it was ok for us to listen to our music or somethin?? can't really remember, think it will be interesting to see if anyone does it tho

I have got a sony walkman phone, I listen to music when im on my own on a hack but its out loud not ear pieces! Ive got allsorts! Bear likes Johnny Cash, June Carter and Christina Aguilera!

I have my horses at home and the school is close enough to the house for me to listen to music on the outside speakers. I don't do it all the time because we do have a neighbour over the road and if it was too loud it may cause him a problem. Don't think I would use an iPod 'cos horse is very spooky and I need to hear any noises that may and ussually does send him into orbit!!

I would never ride with earphones in, like to 'listen' to the horses (ok this sounds really weird, but I know what I mean

) Sometimes take up car or stero and play really loud music to get them use to it before comps though.

i never have, and dont think i ever would, esecially on the roads as you couldnt hear traffic approaching from behind etc.
but i did notice when at area dressage last year, that all the byrds kids warmed up with headphones in, i suppose listening to music.
i thought it must be the latest trend

I wouldn't school or hack with earphones in. It's potentially very dangerous. Even in a school a noise (traffic etc) could set your horse off and you might not even be aware until the horse flies off.
Hacking with earphones is IMO totally irresponsible and only adds to giving riders on the road a bad reputation (as far as drivers are concerned).

Sounds dangerous to me, I would never do it. I quite like to have the radio on at the yard but not when i'm riding. I want to be able to hear everything that my horse can hear in case they spook. I was once giving pony rides on the laziest, sleepiest, I would have thought "bomproof" connemara, when he reared at the sound of a ceremonial cannon blast at a village fete. Horses are unpredictable flight animals and I just wouldn't take the risk.
