How many of you actually have a signed contract for your livery yard

as title says,

I was lucky enough to have my horses at home for years, then moved to grass livery, I had no contract with them and I was asked to leave as they needed the field back,

I then moved to a lovely friendly yard but have not signed a contract just wondering if this is the norm as to not signing anything?

Not sure if it is the norm but I have nearly always signed an agreement. I just moved yards today and have a proper agreement drawn up

Of all the yards I've been at the only one that had a contract was the most horrible place where the owner made up rediculous rules and nearly everyone got fed up and left. All the other yards have been much nicer and prehaps felt no need for contracts as everyone was genuine to eachother? Not saying this is always the case but just my experience.

Every yard I have been on except one has had contracts. Most have been pretty basic outlining payment, what is provided etc, one was very much more detailed. Never bothered me, would be more put off if there was no contract tbh.

Nope. I am on a large DIY yard (40+ horses). No contract.

I've been on 2 without contracts, one was fine - owner was the nicest man i've ever met, the other was horrendous - owner kept changing prices,where we had to buy haylage from, how much turnout etc. I've also been on 2 with contracts, these have both been fine. Current yard has quite a few rules regarding payment, visiting times, riding in hats etc. in its contract but it helps to keep things running smoothly IMO. (all of these yards were DIY by the way)

ours has a pretty comprehensive contract which all liveries sign. to be honest it was quite a relief to have a more formal agreement of what you are getting for your money (and what is/is not expected as a client). have been in the situation on yards before (with no contract) when things were changed (e.g. bedding materials) and service levels flucuated (normally downhill!) and without a contract in place it can end up causing difficult situations/arguments with YO's
