Have recently bought trailer but don't feel I am getting use out of it.

Have any of you bought a trailer/horsebox thinking you would use it more, only to find that it perhaps it would have been better to hire rather than buy?

Nope!! My trailer is out every week - either with horses in it, or equipment from the shoot.

Infact - since having a horse trailer, we have also ended up with a flat bed and a box trailer - because some things fit better on those...!!!!

No, horse in it 2 times a week on average, plus use it for ducks for sheepdog and duck demos and have been known to reluctantly have a tup in it.

I was bought my trailer in February and to be honest, until very recently it has been parked up gathering spiders

. Half of this is because my OH's horse is not a good loader and I was a bit reticent about pinching the 4x4 to take my lad off around the place.

We have been working on the old tart...and her horse

and it looks like we will be going out and about quite a bit more over the rest of the rainy season...sorry, I mean summer.

My trailer could find it's own way to the vets, we went that often with my previous horse

It goes out twice a month to shows now, so not over used but I wouldn't be without it.

Ours got used every 3 weekends out of the month during the showing season for about 10 years, so it really did get some hammer, I'm lost without it now.

but need something that will take 17 and above and that only took up to 16 hands.

We also used it for buying in hay/staw as well.

I spent my first year's student loan on a new Ifor - but have probably only used it 10 times in 3 years

However, it was worth it to me, and if I did want to sell, I wouldnt lose anything!

My trailers been my best investment, it was used twice weekly for a good year after I bought it then once a week for 6 months but since then very sporadically.

But it's cost me ohh about £800 over the 10 years I've had it (new floor a while ago and some new panels last year), never let me down and still 100% wroking order horse and road worthy.

Been through 5 cars and 4 horses in that time!

You're right, I'm not you husband and if Follychoppins is looking in (my OH) , it's just a little harmless banter dear

Right, I'm off to polish the inside of my trailer

I don't think my husband knows how to switch on a computer, never mind use a forum, so I felt I was safe from the outset.

My horsebox wasn't getting much use at first due to my health issues then D's fitness afterwards but we're making up for lost time now

I use mine about twice a month at the mo but wouldn't be without it. I love being able to just enter a show or plan to do whatever I feel like without having to worry about transport!

I bought a Bateson Deauville & it was used about twice a week for the 4 years I had it for. I've carried horses, 8 x 4 sheets of plywood, hay straw & bedding, 10' & 12' poles for jumps, I've even helped someone move house with it. After all that use I sold it about 6 months ago for £300 less than I bought it for. In all it was a really good investment.

Mine got plenty of use to start with the first year and last year, only been out about 6 times this year up to date, using it next week quite a bit and hoping to use it a bit more rest of year, not planning to get rid of it regardless.

I use mine at least twice every month, either a show (not so often) or for a change of scenery for hacking. Its been brilliant, I wouldn't be without it.

Ours has increased in value since we bought it (thorough clean and tidy up - we even got asked if we'd swapped it and bought a new one!) and although we've only used it once a month in the summer we've also used to for other things eg buying fence panels, so it owes us nothing, we'd get more back by selling it.

I bought a lorry last year over agonising, would I use it. I kid you not, a year later, it has been out MOST weekends, even through the winter. At the moment I seem to be out in it every weekend, sometimes once during the week too. I bl00dy love it and have had a go at LOADS of things I would never have done before (endurance, SJ, I even did a DRESSAGE test the other week which made people gasp) and it's just such brill fun to have it. There's nothing better than having a gander at the riding diary and thinking "ooh I'll go to that" (even the night before or that morning!!). Sorry I do love my lorry can you tell? My mechanic thinks I'm odd how much I love my lorry

We bought a trailer a few years ago, and I think we used it twice in the two years we had it! We discovered my pony doesn't like trailers and prefers lorries, so we realised it would be easier to just hire the lorry from the yard whenever we wanted to go anywhere and so we decided to sell the trailer.
