how many of you have mobile stables?

We already have shelter in the field for the horses who live out 24/7/365 but we have been thinking about getting a mobile stable for emergency use only.

How many of you have them? How often do you use them? And what flooring/bedding do you use?

Just initial enquiries at the moment.

I have a pair I introduced after a lot of trouble with planning permission to extend my yard. They're on a bed of road planings with rubber mats inside :)

You had to get planning for the mobile stables, or you got mobile stables because you couldnt get planning for permanent ones?
 
i have 2, i had planning for stables but not the money to get what i wanted a block of 3 14 x12 any way i found mine second hand 2 12 x 18!! they are great, i did get my concret base down b4 they came, i do have a old field shelter n i think the most important thing is to think about what way the weather blows the wind and rain go straight in the door, had i thought more it should face the other way, but that was years ago. sounds obviouse now but not at the time lol! i had deep litter straw on type 1 base worked really well .
 
i have one for my mini .she uses every night and it is rubber matting on top of earth and i use easibed. its lovley and snug and probably drains better than my big girls who are on concrete base.
 
No PP is needed for mobile stables and the local council were difficult when I built my original stables so I introduced the mobiles to save me seeking approval :)
 
I've got 2, road plainings and rubber matting on top. Have used them all winter without problems (did pay extra to have super strong pegs to stop them blowing away - about £75). Really pleased with them!
 
You have heard of people buying things that fell off the back of the lorry, well we bought the back of the lorry.
Old containers, cut out doors on side, put a divider in, put up walls inside (my horse one side, small tack room other) painted outside to make it blend in, some hard core out front, still to put up small paddock fence so I can leave stable door open and she can go in and out at night as she pleases (summer job, I think). Cost so far with delivery from local farmer £450. helps o/h is a joiner. They can be used as field shelters, just cut bigger opening on side, many diffrent types of containers out there, get one to suit, costings will vary, inspected and passed by planners. It works for us and she loves it, put her out and before I have had time to turn and close stable door, shes back in there.

We're thinking of only getting one for now to use as an emergency only to see how it goes. It will be field shelter one side (will use for storing hay) and stable the other.

So, if I was to put rubber matting down on top of the grass, then a straw bed on top, you think that would be sufficient?

We cant put anything permanent down, not even slabs or scalpings, so whatever we use has to be 'moveable'.

Do you all peg them down or are they secure enough without?

The stable will be 12x12, so will the field shelter end.

The containers with the curtains can be used for hay storage, at moment the one we have here one side is pulled open and used as field shelter the curtains are very heavy and strong (no flapping in wind or anything like that ), did not take horses long to start to use. Cost was cheaper for them also.

We're not allowed to use anything like that.

Anything we bring onto the land must be on skids!

Container would have been an option otherwise.
