To my early post of RSPCA and WHW. I take it that most of you would report abuse of horses to the RSPCA than the World Horse Welfare, which is for horses, donkeys and such.
Whose inspectors know about horses, many ex-police officers from the ridden sections in the police force. I must admit I'm baffled.

I would report to WHW, have reported to the RSPCA and they ignored me. Don't even get me started on the Blue Cross.... Not only would I not report anything to them, they are never getting another penny from me.

I know exactly what WHW stands for but unfortunately I have withdrawn my support for them since they decided they are far too important to need any local support and have withdrawn their facilities from use by all local riding/pony clubs. (My understanding is that availability for local use was part of the agreement when receiving planning permission). They now have the most fantastic facilities that used to be hired and enjoyed by hundreds of local riders, which must have made a substantial financial contribution to the charity, now apparently for the sole use of a few rehab cases. Sorry if this sounds harsh and I know that criticising the WHW is akin to blasphemy and also that they do some very big and important things on a national level, but on a local level they have alienated many, many grass-root supporters.

I'm sorry to hear about that, and yes I can understand where you are coming from. I'm begin to realise that the bigger they get the far removed they are from the local riders and supporters.I don't support the RSPCA any more and I do the WHW, but you have made me think big time, as the money I do donate, I like it to help horses, donkeys and such like, maybe I should just donate to SPANA only.

WHW = World Horse Welfare, yes their officers know about horses whereas you maynot be guaranteed that the RSPCA Officer does! But then the WHW don't take cases to court! So if I saw a cruelty case (one that would be likely to go to court!) then why call the WHW who will attend and then call the RSPCA! Why not go straight to the RSPCA!!! missing out the middle man!

But do bear in mind that both of these are Charities and as such do despite opinion have limited resources and staff, they cover huge areas and it may take a while for an attendance, if an attendance does not occur it is probably because the Officers are too busy attending the countless other calls received!!!

Like any large organisations, the service you get from WHW, RSPCA and BHS (among others) very much depends on the area you live in and who works in that particular area. My local WHW field officer is just great, so to him I would go every time.
