How many PN events in a row?

Since so many events have been rained off recently I am getting a bit 'entry happy' - I am doing Sapey OPN, then am sort of planning to do West Wilts, Monmouth, Moreton Morrell and Charlton Park (all at PN) on consecutive weeks in September, then a week off, then Broadway PN. I kind of know the answer really, but is this asking a bit much of Josh?

I was thinking I would probably drop Monmouth so he gets a break (assuming he is sound, it stops raining, I don't get ballotted etc etc!) - what do you think?
 
i personally wouldnt do 5 in a row, i am planning on doing 3 in a row throughout september and i thought blimey is that too much!
but i think it may well depend on your horse, maybe you could miss one out in the middle so he gets a 2 week break at one point and then stil have some consecutive ones, if that makes sense:)
 
That was what I was thinking really - so do Sapey, then 3 weeks off, then West Wilts, then 2 weeks off, then Moreton Morrell and Charlton Park on consecutive weeks, then a week off, then Broadway.

I'll probably wimp out and go back to Intro for them all too

I am pretty much planning to exactly the same events except have Bricky instead of Morton. I do not worry about it especially as there has been a gap. I do not event in July and Aug and my horse goes better when close together as I can get some consistency. He will then have most of the winter doing hardly anything so think for 2 months he can do a few events.
 
I was planning to do 4 events in a row, three PNs then a Novice in june, but the last two got rained off.

I would think 4 in a row is fine - lots of pros run consecutively at the lower levels as the horses learn more, then give them a month or two off - my plan was 4 in a row in June, then july and Aug off, then another 5 in Sept/Oct, though mostly not consecutive as the dates did not pan out that way. Think I had 2 in a row then a break then 3 in a row or some such. Then he will get a month off.
 
Ha, then so am I! Current plan is highclere, Goring heath, break for a weekend then Monmouth, Bricky, Charlton all in a row then break for a weekend and finish at Broadway.

I am sure to get ballotted out of at least one of them as I only have 2 ballot stickers (1 super ballot and 1 September ballot) for all 4 events. Now, PN or Intro I wonder - will see how Sapey goes methinks

The way I always look at it is that I had planned to spend the money, so if something goes wrong and horse is a bit flat or whatever, then I will either withdraw or just do dressage/SJ and it's no skin off my nose as in my head the money is already spent!

I think you'll be fine - why not do the intro at Sapey, PN at the next one, Intro at the one after, PN to the end - that way if it all goes wrong you have the intro run in there to boost your confidence.
 
Thats a really good idea - I'm stuck with PN at Sapey cos they have balloted and I don't want to rock the boat, but I know the course very well so it doesn't scare me like another event might do

I think I'll take your advice and drop back to Intro at West Wilts etc - just don't want to lose my confidence, Josh is fine with anything

Do not think Charlton does intro so that will have to be PN. Its a lovely event loads of pros go. XC is bold but straightforward. Broadway I thought the PN looked very straightforward. Monmouth I love thought it was a lovely course. There are 2 ditches one with running water in PN which stopped a few people. Monmouth also does not offer intro but it had nothing scary in it.
 
The only thing that bothers me at Broadway is the last fence - it looks so intimidating to me! But I guess it is the same fence even if I do Intro so will see nearer the time.

I think I have done an unaff HT at the Monmouth venue - water shouldn't be a problem (touch wood) thinking about the way Josh launched himself into the water at Sapey when we did an unaff ODE there

I have not been looking at the schedules, can you tell?!

Broadway PN is very easy and very small, it rides really nicely.

Running water you say at monmouth, that could be exciting! Is that in the Novice too...? I may need to apply some encouragement if so!
 
When I worked for Polly Williamson she was reccomending that the young horses do two Pre Novices a week for about a month and then they would have a few weeks off then start in the same pattern again.
But personally I think 2 a week is a bit much, 1 a week is fine...
 
The novice is a trakehner which is a lot better! You will be fine.

It looks a bit like the sort of wooden fence panel that you get around gardens, with a curved top, and a small flowerbed in front - it jumps absolutely fine, I have never seen anyone have problems at it, its just a bit of a mental blip for me for some reason

I aim to do 5/6 in a row as we have two distinct seasons with a month or two in between, I tend to end up not running at 1/2 so it works out nicely that way.
