How many share rather than own their own horse?

And what arrangement do you have with the owner?

I'll start - I have a very flexible sharing agreement with my best friend. I help out with poo picking etc and ride mr b in return. I also buy the occasional bag of feed and contribute to shoes etc but it is a very laid back affair as she is my best mate anyway. Oh and also look after the horses if my friends unwell or in hospital as she's not in the best of health at the minute xx

I had a gap between having my own horses of about 8 months. I shared a horse whilst having winter off owning my own.

I paid £100 a month and rode 2-3 times a week hacking and schooling. I could do what I liked with her. I didn't have to do any yard duties, but I chose to do it as I like doing it.

I now have my own again, so ride and muck out everyday!

I get to ride one horse once a week if I muck out and turn him out. One other I house-sit for my ex-boss and she lets me ride whenever I want during that time (she owns a yard) - I usually end up "adopting" my normal lesson horse for the week :)

I've done "proper" shares before and it's been fairly equal between myself and the owner in terms of chores, then I get to ride about half the week and they get to do the other half. I've also had a "share" where I've pretty much done absolutely everything. No money has ever changed hands - I wouldn't ever share if I had to pay, and I wouldn't ever ask anyone to pay me for riding their horse. It works better that way, I find.

Met the owner of my pony as she was a friends neighbour & desperate to find someone to ride her horse, it was getting to the point where she thought she might have to pay someone to exercise him. Because of this I don't actually pay for him at all, and he's on DIY with her 3 other horses so no yard duties for me either, as she's up there every day anyway. I can ride pretty much as often as I like, at the moment it's 3 times a week because that's all I can fit in, hacking, schooling & jumping. It's great because it's v. laid back.

my mum, sister and I share a horse with a family, but they also have 4 others so we can generally ride some of the others if we want as well (so we can hack out together) , we can ride pretty much as often as we want, arrangement is perfect! My mum gives money every month (not sure how much..) but we also help muck out (not just the one we share) etc etc, and buy occasional replacement boots/headcollars/do tack-cleaning we couldn't have found a better family to share with :) has been going for over 2 and a half years and works brilliantly!!

i do both! i own a horse which i have a sharer for and i share a horse with its owner. basically i look after the horse 3 days a week when the owner is at work and help with it the other 4 days. my sharer rides when ever she wants and helps occasionally (my choice as its easier for me to get on with the jobs) she pays £20 a week and usually does 2/3 days a week.

i am not a sharer, i am an owner with a sharer! she is a young girl, coming on 14 (i've just turned 20) who rides out with me, as i have recently broken my 3yr old and wanted somebody to ride out on the older horse to get him used to traffic etc. she also looks after my 6 ponies when i'm at college during the week, so normally on a tues, weds & thurs. i see to them at the weekend and she comes up and rides with me. i don't ask any money from her because she's so willing to ride and help, and she loves doing yard chores so when i come back home at the weekend my yard is always spotless! i keep my horses at home, so don't need to pay livery - hence why i don't ask for any money for her. i have 2 fjords and 4 shetland ponies so feed bill is very small and they are all barefoot and never, ever need the vet out - i am very lucky to have such hardy ponies :)
