How many tests?

I do 2, I usually do the first one as a warm-up and to let her see the arena and then the 2nd is usually a qualifier. I find she tends to be more relaxed in the 2nd test.

One or two but pony usually goes rubbish in the second - good to warm up but then takes the p!ss in the arena! Which is unfortunate as I want to start trying novice but don't want to stop doing prelim and so can't really guage how we're doing as we've always done a prelim first (if that makes sense)! She's the same with showing - great in the class but if we get into the championship she usually acts like a prat!

Usually two

I normally do 2 however I am waiting to get my Andi stallion downgraged and until his back started playing up was planning on 3. The rationale behind this was as I have just imported him and he has never competed here in the uk, so I wanted to do a novice - which we entered HC as a warm up just to see how he went. I was then planning on competing 2 Elementaries again HC as even though its unaffiliated I feel it unfair to enter an adavanced horse working at this level against beginners.

Sorry I am waffling, so normally 2 but on this occasion 3. I think and this is only my opinion that 3 would be the max both physically and mentally for the horse.

I know you mean FS and I would be dead after 2 tests but my new boy has been working his socks off in Spain so he can handle it - give him 3 months of being over here and it will be 2 believe me

Although he is off for some serious schooling in the next couple of weeks so maybe its me that will need to get up to his level of 3 not him come down to mine

2 also normally the lower level as a warm up as for some reason we always seem to do better in the 2nd test. Think we both need the first one to calm us down.

Spanishlover have to say I wish there was a lot more people like you out competing and being 'honest' about yours and your horses capabilities. My biggest bugbear is people competing at lower levels when they should quite clearly not be there - oh and its always just to get the horse exposure - if thats true why not compete HC? Pure rosette grabbing!!!!!

i always do 2, we normally do worst in the first test as i quite often need the quick up my backside to ride more determined especially when i get a rubbish mark when i know she is capable of getting over 65%

I think it depends on the level and also obviously on the horse- sometimes babies can only cope with one, other times they are better doing a couple. Also the higher up you go, the more intensive the work so perhaps one is enough.

My horse is competing medium now and will just do one test- I warm up for 40 minutes and I think that is enough for him

Usually 2, one at a lower level then the other used as a warm up! But if hes a monster then ill withdraw and only do one, but thats only happened once (as Law here will remember Non-aff show)

2 generally, sometimes 3 and Boss once did 5 as he was such a g*t. Didnt help matters though- he was actually worst in the last one, even though by this time my sister was on board!!

at the moment i have only done 1 as it was my first dressage test that i did towards then end of last year at my college i so scared but did well i was so happy to actually get place

I do remember SM! Oh dear!

I've got butterflies reading this post- it's making me think of the qualifiers we're doing in 4 months time

Cob donkey went awfully at the last one- he's had a year to improve so fingers crossed.
We'll be doing two next time we go out.
