How many times over winter do you feel you could throw it all in?

I was just thinking this earlier when I was mucking out in the pouring rain, trying to sort out various wet rugs and generally bloody cold.
Are others like me - at least once a day it crosses my mind that keeping my horse is a sense of madness! I cannot remember what she looks like in the daylight, riding has become a water dodging sport, money for rugs, feed, hay, bedding flies out of my account before I can even blink and what the hell is a 'lie in'???!!!
Ah but I will soldier on even if she is a wet, expensive, once grey but now muddy black little angel!
Just thought I'd see if others, alongside me, would grieve the long, hot summer days hacking across the hills!

Your not alone, I think alot of us have days where we think,
'Am I mad!' And yes I am but still, its tough some days, but just think the shortest day is almost here which means it will get lighter from then on

Chin up, you can do it

yup most days! & im gettin 8 of them thru this winter! crazy i no! our fields r very muddy/flooded, menage not finished so very little/no riding, no one around to hack with (keep horses on our own land alone & only recently moved to the area so dont know anyone yet) on the plus we are in a big barn for the stables so nice & dry & they are only 50m out of the back door! & the foals keep me entertained!
dont worry it just winter! roll on the spring for the long hacks in the gorgeous sunshine gettin a tan & enjoying them again! however hard the winter is going for a gallop across a green field in the summer makes it all worth while!!

I personally don't mind the freezing cold or the early dark mornings, mucking out, etc, etc, but I absolutely hate it when its chucking it down with rain and your running from barn to stable, to feed room, back to stable, and end up like a drowned rat, but like everyone I wouldn't change it for the world.

I've had a couple of "wobbly" moments recently!
I seem to tootle along happily thinking to myself about how well it's going and how i'm coping and then you get a day or two when there just isn't enough hours in the day and you feel like you're spreading yourself too thin and getting nowhere! And then today the sun comes out and it all seems so much better again and I wonder what I was stressing about.

Really don't mind this time of year to be honest. The last couple of days the weather has been dry and cold. And today was glorious.

TBH I struggle more with motivation in the summer, than the winter.

.

Going through thick mud, I must admit is getting me down but they cold dry weather on the way, so will get out my water barrels as my waterpipe freezes over. So can bring barrels home and fill them up there. Oh and chilblains, snotty nose, cold ears, in fact cold everywhere.

Hi, Glad it's not just me!! I have 7 of my own and another 9 to look after. In the rain and wind I often wish I could pack it all in and do something else but WHAT would I do? I get sooo tired and it seems neverending. All the liveries to keep happy and the yard to keep tidy and to cap it all off nicely a landlord who is a nightmare.....uses my yard as a dumping ground for machinery, rubble etc Just turns up on the tractors etc and lets himself into my fields without letting me know! Even been know to take fencing down and leave it down without telling me! The field had 2 of my eventers in it and it was only because I check everything so much that we discovered there was no fence! They could have got straight onto the lane! I am desperate to find another yard / farm to rent so if anyone knows of anywhere in Lancs that may be suitable please let me know.
Have a lovely Christmas and keep smiling.

I do when the whether is cold and wet, fields boggy, horses muddy. Suddenly change my mind when I see their little faces and give them a big hug.

There are 3 of us who get to the yard at 6am weekdays. Some days we just look at each other and go, "are we mental??!!"

No I never think like that over winter. Winter means the last season before all the new babies arrive so then we are even closer to having all the joys of having little foals running around in the paddocks again and 6 months away from getting a return on my investments. All of my broodmares live outside though so I dont really have to do very much for them if the weather is miserable.

Every other day really!!

As the years go by...the winters seem longer and the summers shorter.....and I wonder how much longer I can go on.

Except, that I adore my furries and can't bear the thought of not having any of them in my life.

So, I will plod on through these dank winters of despair...

.... and ponder life in front of the TV, with a rug across my knees and a box of chocolates on my lap!!!!!
