I am looking in to doing a trailer test but I have only been driving for 16 months, I passed my car test first time back in May 09. Im just wondering if I have enough driving experence in general to pass the trailer test?

How long had everyone else been driving for before taken their trailer test(and passing:))?

The sooner the better as you will have less bad habits. You'll probably need either a full week course with test at the end or something like that. It's jus t anormal driving test with some differences so asap!

I'd been driving for 10 years, and I had picked up a lot of bad habits in that time. I had to learn to drive properly again! As SusieT says, do it sooner rather than later!

The test is basically a full on driving test all over again (so you'll be fine with that part), but longer (you have to go on urban roads, rural roads, dual carriage way, do down hill start, up hill start etc) and with trailer bits (unhitching, hitching, reversing, emergency stop). The trailer stuff you do at the test centre, then you go out on the roads. I think it's meant to last about 1-1.5 hours, can't remember how long mine was though, a bit of a blur now!

Good luck! :o

I did my trailer test about 4 years after my driving test but I would say the sooner you can do it the better. The driving part is exactly the same as your driving test but you have a trailer on the back which really doesn't make a huge amount of difference. The longer you have been driving, the more difficult is to drive "correctly". The only extra thing you have to learn is how to reverse the trailer into a bay, hitching and un-hitching and a controlled stop.

As others have said if you do a couple of days training you should have no problem. I failed first time but only when my reverse started to go wrong and I panicked. I went on to do the rest of the test with only 2 minors which was gutting!
