So after the big horse went back after 2 days trial due to napping

thought I would wait till Spider has gone and look for another, maybe another older type like Dexter.

Anyway a 4yr old has come up, professionally broken last year, hacking/schooling now, hacks on the roads etc. 16.3hh dark bay gelding. Its dam was an eventer and I think its by broadstone landmark

Hasnt started jumping yet I dont think.

Can anyone suggest what sort of price you would be looking to pay for something like this? Want to know if what they want is resonable. thanks

£5000 ish
May be way off though , not good at pricing horses .
You just have to know how much I payed for Sol and you'd understand

Price bracket varies lots, depends on attitude, conformation, movement and technique over a fence.

I would estimate anywhere from £4000 - £8000, and it wouldn't surprise me if it was higher than that, not that I would pay silly prices for an unproven youngster

Could be any price, depending on whether the word "potential" is used! Joking apart, if it's 16.3hh at 4 do you not think it might end up being a bit big for you?

I would think they'd want somewhere between 4k and 6.5k for it.

Depends on conformation/movement etc. But with good breeding (not that it makes a difference with a gelding

) Good movement, temperament etc etc, your prob looking at anything from about 5.5k as a good prospect.... however, i wouldnt want to be paying more than about 4.5k!

Looks like they are being resonable with the price then

I do have long legs, I competed a 17.2hh and 18hh horse last year BE

Think it has quite a bit of TB in it so shouldnt do alot more growing.

This is me on the 18hh horsey, hopefully dont look too bad/small on him!

Obviously dont want anything this big again as it isnt really neccesary but if the young one does get 17hh/17.1hh it should be ok

This one could have given humungerhorse a run for his money in humungerness!!!

How tall are you - I'd never have said that was 18hh. Your legs must go on forever, just like Tempi's........

Its not length of legs that really count though is it?! Just alot more horse to keep together!
grin.gif
I much prefer smaller horses as they are easier to keep together and ride IMO....but then I have ridden some monster big horses!!

You'd get away with something smaller H_J

I probably would but I do prefer 16.2hh/16.3hh ish and I understand it isnt just about having longer legs but that does help
smile.gif
Have ridden lots of big horses and small horses. But im not too fussed as long as they have a big stride am not keen on a short striding horse
smile.gif

Started out really riding big chunky warmbloods all 16.3hh + and I think thats kind of set the standard as such! But I agree the little ones can be great I mean Spider is only 16.1hh but has a huge stride

Why isnt it jumping? I'd want to see it jumped if its broken, esp as it has been broken a while.
£3500 with no jumping or anything up to 6k depending on its jump.

i paid £5500 for the horse in my siggy, 16.2 sports horse, professionally broken, had competed dressage once and been placed, showed very sucessfully as youngster, well put together, jumped alittle at home-hardly at all though.
i would say you were looking at 6k tops, although some of the youngsters we looked at, were much more due to the names that had produced them

bloody hell those prices are disgusting..dear me
crazy.gif

id never pay that much like £6000 for a horse that hasnt proven its ability! ......even if it was out of arko,
tongue.gif
who i love!
its up to you tho, if it was proven good and genuine then fair enough if i was going to keep it for ever, but we buy and sell lmao...just my opinion
