by other's oppinions? I didnt think I bothered but the older I get the more i realsie how much in the past I have been influenced. The roman nose thread started me thinking. Years ago I was "taught not to like them; but in actual fact I rather do like a roman nose. Also other things;not only to do with horses but life in general. What do you think?

ahh depends on whose opinions. Not general opinions - other than sometimes a natural polarisation against them ;) - but there are people whose opinions make me re-think my own - there's even a couple on here... Others have to back their opinions with some fact before I'll let them influence me ;)

I think everyone would like to say that they aren't very influenced by other people/opinions, because it makes them feel more confident with the notion that they own their opinions and beliefs and aren't just just social sponges. However there is no way that anybody can not be influenced by other people's opinions. Opinions aren't as explicit as some people might think, so in ways that we aren't even aware of our thinking and opinions do change. Influences in our environment might enforce our already existing beliefs and opinions, or have the opposite effect. It definitely need not be a bad thing necessarily. There seems to be a general belief that people who refuse to think differently about something they strongly feel about are to be respected and admired for standing their ground. But at the same time others would see that as being ignorant or narrow-minded. I like to think that, for those opinions of mine that have stayed more or less constant, I at least am more aware of broader, more aware alternative ways of thinking about those concepts (partially thanks to H&H;))
Interesting thread, Horsesforever 1 :)

do you mean someones opinion about you as a person or others opinions in general:)
peoples opinions about me no longer bother me, i've got to the age where i know who i am and don't feel the need to change, ;).
As for others general opinions, as i've got older i've learnt to listen more, i guess i've learnt there is no black and white, right or wrong in a lot of things so i try to be more open minded:) i've also realised i know a lot less than i thought i did so find that others opinions can actually nudge me towards looking into something a bit more deeply so that i can make my own mind up.
