for those who have rubber mats, if you just sprinkle enough shavings to soak up all the wee how much do you use ? would i get away with a bag a month ? for one horse ?

I have rubber matting. My horse is a filthy Beastie! I am on Beddown and use 3 -4 bales a week in the winter.

I could probably get away with less but he is a big horse who loves a lay down and my rugs stay cleaner the bigger the bed.

Also I find the bigger the bed, the easier it is to muck out :)

I have just bought rubber matting and my horse is dirty in the stable so I thought I would do an area at the back of the stable for her to poo and wee on to try to train her to do it in one spot and then increase the bed the cleaner she gets. She doesnt usually lie down in the stable so that shouldnt be too much of an issue.

With careful poo picking and removing the wet each day, we use between 1 and 1 and 1/2 bales of shavings a week. Depth of shavings 50mm-75mm and with banks.

She does lie down at night but doesn't really mess up her bed.

I'm on normal wood shavings and I probably use about 1/2 - 1 bales max per week when he's in during the winter. He can be quite messy so he has nice thick mats and just a sprinkling of shavings in the middle to suck up the wet. He does have banks and I work from these during the week and then top up at the weekend. And the sprinkling is just that, enough to cover the mat and that's it :)

Our stables are rubber matted and about 18' deep. I put a full bed down in the back third. I have never been that successful just putting down a sprinkling of bedding.

One of my horses is very clean and probably has one bag put in every couple of weeks. Most of the others have about a bag a week.

I semi deeplitter in that I take the droppings out very day and any wet that comes to the surface and then take out all the wet every month or so.
