Probably a numpty question, so bear with me!

I started my mare on this last weekend because she is looking a bit rough coming out of winter. She is 16hh TB approx 450-70kg.

From working out the amount on the back of the bag, I have been feeding her 1 scoop twice a day, but once it is soaked it explodes out of the bucket! (She is also having two scoops of hifi lite twice daily too.)

Does this sound right? I just seem to be going through the bag quickly (Nearly all gone after one week!)

ETA

She is 17 years old, not worked and lives out 24/7

A girl at the yard is feeding what sounds like the same quantities as you twice a day (i/e feed bursting out of feed skip). On the advice of the vet.

The horse is looking very well.

Yep, it's an insanely large amount once soaked. I did query it with A&P and it's right!

Think of it this way... one scoop weighs 1.5kg and they reckon you can feed up to 6.5kg per day, imagine how quickly you'd go through a bag at that rate!

When my mare was on it she was having ½ scoop am and 1 scoop pm plus a scoop alfa a and ½ scoop cool cubes in each feed. The feeds were enormous which I never liked, have now got her on Power and Performance and mollichaff showshine. Much smaller feeds yet the same number of calories (well, slightly more actually)

ETA a bag would last me 10 days but fed at 1 scoop twice daily will last a week

Wow I don't feed nearly that much :o ! We started our youngster on it in the autumn as he dropped a bit of weight and have left him on it all spring but I prob been feeding 1/3 scoop dry weight am and same PM with a full scoop alfa A and he has thrived on it all winter! When soaked its a scoopfull and ends up being similar volume in the bucket as my other two who are on mixes...He does also have blue chip so don't worry too much about feeding manufacturer's suggested quantities as he gets a good amount of vits/minerals from the blue chip.

My friend recommended this feed to me to give my hunter and like you questioned the amount with the feed line and seemed to go down the bag very quickly after discussing this with my instructor who had a look at the bag and it's listed feed contents pointed out that it was basically sugar beet and wheat feed which is the carrier and maize. So I have now switched to SB with a scoop of Light mix ( maize Peas etc) and a little oil with some Alfa A and it does the same job - gives a wonderful coat and it a fraction of the cost. :-)

I do half and half with speedibeet to reduce cost. I'd add another scoop of hifi too and change to the original, rather than lite, and add someveg oil to the feed too?
