How much did you pay for a middleweight turnout rug? And who has them on now?

Ok so this morning I got in my car at around 7.30am and it was 2 degrees! Sooo cold! My poor wimpy boy has a lightweight rug on that is ripped to shreds  and a very light under rug on. I'm thinking about moving up to a middleweight now as he does drop weight easily. Just been having a look around though and as I only paid £43 for his combo super heavyweight I really don't feel I should be paying out for more then this for a middleweight! However, all the combos I can find are atleast £50 odd quid...

Prices are what they are unfortunatley. Depends on where you are looking though. Do you have any tack sales near you? Or ebay is always a good bet if you dont mind second hand (in fact you can often get a better standard rug for less just because its used!).
Middleweight combo for one of mine in a 6'3 was £38 brand new at a tack auction.

Depends what you want there usually isn't much difference between heavy weights and medium weights prices. Try looking on the thread from earlier today entilted cheap turnout rug alternative names or something like that there was some quite good suggections of the cheaper end rugs on there.

I tend to look on ebay and sites like equestrian clearence and equine superstore.co.uk and buy at end of season or last years colours of better quality rugs and generally pay up £100 for a very good heavy weight and maybe £80 for a medium weight.

Not much help at the moment for you but I always find buying out of season is best therefore I buy light weights in winter ready for spring/autum and I have already bought medium and heavy weights in the summer when no one else is buying them or bidding for them on ebay.

Check out Derby house own makes as they have had a special offer on their turnout combos recently and they have been dicussed on the forum recently too.

My lad has his Med Weight turnout on for the first time today. It's only getting up to 8 degs today!!!
It was -1 last night so he had an insulator rug on....bbbrrrr!!!

I got my turnout from an Equine Car Boot. It's a Rhino high neck and I paid £15 for it. It had a rip on the inside which I sowed up but apart from that it's great.

He's now out as snug as a bug!!!

Try looking on Ebay, Friday ads, loot etc for 2nd hand rugs or if you want new and you know what you want then typeit into Google and it will bring up the cheapest on the net.

My lad Is only 2 so I'm not spending a fortune on rugs as he grows out of them so quickly!!!

I think I paid £74 for a weatherbeeta 200g filling full neck. My old boy has been having this on a night for a week or so and has kept it on today (usually put a 100g fill on during day)

I bought it from local tack shop, maybe I could have found it cheaper if I shopped around. I did get a mid weight masta for less last year but I really didn;t like it, it weighs a ton and is cotton loned so if it slips it doesn;t 'right' itself just sticks there.

I don't mind paying more for what I know will fit and be good quality and last.

I got a 200g fill normal(no neck) rug off a website for £26. Its was fine for a year or two but has now gone very lumpy and has rusty clips. I would expect my weatherbeeta to last for many years to come.

It's meant to be minus temps tonight but after that it's going back to 10 degree at night (in sussex) so you may only need a medium weight on for tonight

I bought a shires tempest 180g yesterday for £39.95, Mels is lovely and snug in that... If you look for shires/masta/rambo etc they mostly have a 'budget' range. I refuse to pay 60-80quid for rugs!!

Mine has his MW combo on just now, it was £52 (bought about 2 weeks ago) - it's BRIGHT PINK and black and he loves it. Honest.

Belle has been in a m/w combo turnout at night for the last 2 or 3 nights and then is in l/w turnout in the day.

Mine was quite cheap from Derby House (but I don't like it, or them, and would never buy another).

I always bang on about Fast Tack Direct but they do appear to have great deals, though I have never bought a rug from them (have had other things though and great service). This Rhinegold m/w combo (200g) is £55 and if you become a VIP member, which is free, then it is free delivery. http://www.fasttackdirect.co.uk/pro..._Full_Neck_Konig_200g_Winter_Turnout_Rug.html

I paid £65 or 70 for a weatherbeeta 220g combo last year and it's still perfect now, it's not on him yet, I'm hoping he won't need it till nearer December time

oh and that was from equestrianclearance
