Just wondered really...

For 2 horses it cost £70 today;

  • both have 2 front shoes
  • D has special shoes though (are much more expensive than a normal shoe)
  • both have back feet trimmed
  • Farrier spent 1.5 hours here

I can honestly say our farrier is amazing, before we found out what was wrong with D he spent around 9 hours with him in 2 weeks trying things out and refused to be paid!

So what do you pay? (A very good friend pays £104 for 1 set of shoes, is that normal?)

£58 for a full set with road nails in the back shoes.

Just paid a "stand in" farrier £65 for a full set with road nails and stud holes in the back ones - so quite similar to my normal farrier. He told me he charges £60 as a basic cost and then £5 for a set of stud holes + £5 for a set of road nails - but I only had those in the backs of my horse.

I pay £60 per set with stud holes all round.

Last winter though I just had front shoes on them both with the winter being as bad as it was & it was lovely to have 2 horses shod for under £100!!! LOL

£55 for a full set including stud holes wherever you want them, £15 for a trim, farrier also comes out and replaces lost shoes free of charge between visits :) Does remedial shoeing if needed, I really respect him, he's very calm and patient, my 'had to be sedated' TB is absolutely fine, stands totally chilled for him. However when youngster messes about he's not opposed to giving her a firm thump, she totally respects him now and stands like a doll to be trimmed. He also seems to like us and will shift all his clients round to fit us in, we noticed a problem one evening and he came 8 the next morning :) :) He spends roughly an hour and a bit for full shoe, and 25 minutes on a trim. Very thorough, never had any feet issues with him. Only thing is he's always late, but I just get them in half an hour later than planned and it's fine :P

When Bloss was having a full set of ''special'' shoes (due to being badly shod whilst on loan resulting in her being lame) i was paying around £110 a set.

Now all mine are currently barefoot and i pay £24.60 for a trim.

£65 for a set normally, but my comp horse now has long egg bars in front made specially so £85 for the set, but he has them refitted a few times (has his front feet done every 4/5 weeks atm), so today only cost me £30.

Trim is £20.

My farrier is also fab, always on time, reliable, very good and he'll come out at the weekend too :D

£25 for a trim.
£45 for front shoes. £1.25 per road nail on top of that.
£65 for 4 shoes. £1.25 per road nail on top of that again.

Some farriers in my area apparently charge £75 for 4 shoes. Ouch!

I used to pay £40 for a full set and £25 for shod infront and trim behind. Iv now changed farriers and now pay; £40 for front shoes and trim behind and £60 for a full set.

£78 for a full set with stud holes and road nails. This is in surrey/hants and is fairly reasonable for this area. Last Farrier was about £88 for the same and tha farrier before that £105! :o

I pay £63 for a full set with road nails. Not a bad price really, though I am jealous of my friend who has hers barefoot so having all 4 of hers trimmed is still cheaper than my one horse!

£80 for a full set with stud holes and road nails. Back shoes come off for the winter which brings it down to £45 from Oct-March. Still way more per year than I spend on shoes for myself anyway!!!!

Last set I got stud holes x 4 which put my shoes up from £80/set to £84. Last shoes I bought for myself were £2.50 for flipflops from Tesco!

Well, my previous farrier charged £70.10 for a full set plus trimming - my current farrier charges £60.00 . . . and as Kali has a club foot he tends to need shoeing about every 4-5 weeks otherwise he pulls the shoe on his right fore (club) off (and generally takes a chunk of foot off too).

P

£96 for full set, including extra solder as I do alot of roadwork.

£75 if I hack to the forge and get them done.

But then again my farrier is head of the european federation, but also the most reliable guy around! If I have a problem, he will come back same day no questions asked!

Wow for once the Isle of Man looks cheap!! lol

I pay £58-00 for a full set with hind road pins, and £32 for front shoes only and a trim behind! :D
Farrier is brilliant, will just get horses in/turn out and come for free to replace shoes/if i get lameness problems etc. :D Always early/on time too! :D

I pay £100 for full set, including stud holes, ali fronts and leather pads in front (Apr to Sept), minus the stud holes and pads it's £80. And £25 to trim the old girl.
