Just out of interest really, how much do you pay and what is included - school, storage, lorry/trailer parking? Dose the the quality of hacking and area in which you live affect the price?
Mine works out at £10 p/w, for 14 acres, open access barns and natural shelter. Automatic water troughs, electric, tack room, feed room, stables (extra £2.50 p/w) and hard standing on yard. Grass school in summer with jumps.
Cost of big bales of hay is split between owners as is electricity bill (about £5 a quarter.) Hay is put in every week by farmer.
Hacking is excellent, arguably the best in the county. Free storage for horse boxes. Muck heap disposed of by farmer and YM checks the horses and land 2x a day.
Its a bit shabby, but as far as the horses are concerned its 5*. Excellent value.
No reduction for ponies, but I get a discount for having three horses.
£28 per week for:
Big fields with great grass, not sure the actual size but big enough for up-to 15 horses to have plenty of space for themselves.
Fields are harrowed when required
Enough land to properly rest fields
All-weather surface outdoor school
Ad-lib haylage as soon as the weather starts to turn for the worse until it shows definate signs of improving. We are also allowed a reasonable amount of hay to use in nets while we are grooming etc
They clean the water baths
In an American style barn we have;
Tackroom
Feedroom
'Stuff' room
Wash bay
Kitchen
They sort out worming and will worm all horses on the same day so a strict routine is always adhered to.
If you have a hicup through the day or are on holiday they will do your horses for no extra charge and with no complaints.
They'll bring in your horses for the farrier for no charge if you can't make it down.
They'll happily lend you a box if you need it for a back-man visit.
I love my yard!![]()
