Just curious what the charge is now for riding lessons across the country. So how much do you pay, how long are the lessons, what does your lesson include and do you feel you benefit?

Thanks xx

£27, half hour private, do whatever I want!! With a totally fantastic instructor. Well worth the money xxxx

£23 for a 45 minute, group lessons :) Its the same rate for hacks, SJ, flat, XC all of which we do. I do feel the benefit, there are 3 riders in my group and we all support eachother if we feel nervous etc and it has a lovely relaxed feel about the lessons as well :) Hope that helps :)

Woooow, i take it the people above are from England?

At the school i keep my horse at, this is the prices:
1hour group-£16
halfhour group-£9
1hour private-£25
halfhour private-£16

also, we do hacks which are:
1hour (just woods but walk, trot, canter, jump if you want)-£20
2hours (can be either just woods(like above) or beach!)-£30

:)

Forgot to add, our instructor is very good and helps you with anything your struggling on. Whether you wanna have a play about lesson, do dressage, work on SJ or do some XC.. She will help you out! :)

Going rate around here is normaly about £20 for an hours group lesson (up to 8!!! people in a group)
And around £30 for 1/2hr private £40 for 1hr private

For a freelance instructor [olympic] on my horse who comes out to us it's £30 for 45mins.

Back when I was in my riding school, I *think* it was something like:
£14 for childs hour group lesson.
£18 for adults hour group lesson.
£20 for half hour private childs, £25 for adults.
£30 for hour childs private, £35 for adults.

Edited- 'Group' was about 4 or 5 people generally.

£20 per hour group lesson (up to 7 people but very occasionally only 2-3)
£32 per hour private lesson
£55 at a different place for 45min schoolmaster lesson (but she's brilliant and worth it!)

Thanks guys, was just curious as until recently I had my own horse and only hacked. I lost her in 2008 and for a year I couldn't even think about sitting on another horse as I felt guilty and it wasn't my girl if you get me! Sitting on her was like putting on a comfy pair of shoes. Anyway last year I started having lessons at a lovely stables but it's always in a indoor school and you can only walk/trot as school not really big enough and you're mixed with disabled riders. Has done wonders for my position but I'm a bit bored now so off now to another stables on wed's. Would like to start jumping again as although I've never been a confident jumper I do enjoy it (more so once it's over!!!) and also they do hour or two hour hacks, I miss hacking out so much!

Anyway enough rambling xx

crikey, its sooo expensive to ride at a school!!! my horse costs me about £35 a week to keep!!! and all the riding i hve time for! he's out 24/7, shod on the front and is cheap and easy to keep. when i started looking into buying a horse i couldn't believe the price comparison to what i had been paying to hack out a riding school horse once a week, which is why i jumped at the chance. i know its slightly different if ur paying for lessons, which i also did when i first got my horse jst to refresh me and help me bond. i guess its all down to school insurance and outgoing costs that makes it so expensive.

Hi, Our yard is half riding school and they charge...

£25 for an hour and half hack but only available on a Sunday.
£18 for half an hour lesson with max of 4 people in the lesson
£25 For half an hour private lesson

They close 2 days a week to give the horses a rest which i think is quite sweet but the instructors come in on those 2 days and freelance themselves to the liveries...they charge £15 for a private lesson.

Pony days are £30 in the summer holiday

I think it's quite pricey myself...I remember paying £10 for an hours lesson when i was a kid!!!

Still i know the instructors are on £10 an hour and the groom is on £7.50 an hour so when you also factor in the cost of the horses, insurance etc i bet the YO doesn't make that much out of it?!!?
Probably makes more money from the liveries???

Wow, I think SE is a lot more expensive than the RSs others have posted about! I'm in Berkshire now and used to be in London. Lessons in both areas can be anything from £27 (cheapest I found in London, but better than some pricier places) to £40+. Cheapest private is usually at least £35 / £40 for 45 minutes!

I did have a private lesson in Yorkshire last autumn (OH was working up there and I went to visit) and had about an hour and a quarter for £15. It was a brilliant lesson too, I would have re-located if work allowed ;)

At the livery yard where i keep my horse its - £18 child 1/2 hour private lesson, £20 adults half hour private lesson might seem expensive but its brilliant. I think its the same for hacking not sure though its based in the norfolk countryside so fab hacking!

Private.
Hunter Jumper Trainer, yard is a mile up the road, we use our own horse or hers, depends. No extra charge whichever.

Half hour - 25
Hour - 40

When I was having lessons I was travelling 60 km to my Trainer (AQHA Professional Horseman) riding one of his reining horses. I was paying 50 an hour private.

hmm some of these seem pretty cheap to me!

I pay £29 for an hour group lesson (though our instructor is not great at time keeping so we often run over) with a BHS I. Good horses and probably one of the most knowledgable instructors I have had although her style wouldn't suit everyone, we learn about and discuss a lot of different things inc stable management, health, conformation etc but the riding itself doesn't tend to be too intensive!

I do cheat somewhat with my daughter's lessons as no money passes hands.
Lessons are exchanged for my stallion covering Trainers mares, I am about $600 in credit at the moment:D

Used to pay £32 for an hour group lesson, in a particularly awful riding school which I have since learnt has an awful reputation!
Then I paid £22 an hour for a group lesson at a slightly shabby but quite nice rs,
Now I pay £10 for a half hour group with a fab instructor, £17 for half hour private.
:)

Oh, all in North London!
