Hello, I was just wondering how much people pay for their saddles to be checked and flocked?

I have been quoted £45 call out, £20 to look at a horse and £10 for alterations. From the people that I bought my saddle off.

I can't remember how much the person was that I used before that! Does this sound reasonable to you? Thanks

I have one booked to come in a couple of weeks (very busy) she charges £50 call out per saddle with travel expenses on top.

At the yard here we've paid £60 per site visit for saddle fitter, with any work extra. This is from the people we bought the saddles off originally. As there's two of us on the yard we usually split it.

However, as they've got very busy (and therefore regrettably unavailable) we recently had a local man came for £45 - any work was extra.

There was a woman we had a while back who did "saddle fitting" - her call-out fee was practically minimal BUT she made up by charging a lot for her (secondhand) saddles. I won't mention the name - but it will be well known to anyone in the SW of England!! So cheapest not always best.

Call out has to depend on how far away the person is, though I understand it impacts on your pocket of course :). I charge £40 call up to 30 mins from me, assessment of any saddle sold by me, or fitting of a saddle I'm selling, is of course free, flocking is £20-50, tree adjustment is £50. Fairly standard charges.

Mine costs me £40 to come out to me and look at the saddle/horse. if its a little bit of flocking he does it for nothing, recently had a complete reflock of a dressage saddle for £70. (which he then re-checked for me 5 months later when looking at my XC saddle and put a bit of extra flocking in where it needed it for free)

Last one I had was 60 quid but quite a long journey for him. Didn't like him that much and there are at least two nearer who charge 40 all in. I think Mark Fisher in Wisbech who does various FEI and Olympic people is 45 plus travel so yours does seem a bit steep!

Who are you using OP? PM if you prefer. I am Nottingham also.

First time I had the saddle fitter out (Saddle Company Fitter) was about 7 weeks ago she charged £35. That included travel, look at pony, reflock and check saddle. Had her back out again last week as the saddle was sitting too low and she charged £30 to recheck fit with a flexi curve, change shape of gullet (Saddle Company Saddle) and further flocking.

Seems that's a good deal in comparison to others.

But that would be £45 plus mileage call out, could be 20p a mile easily, no idea of his charges, so Mark would be pricier. I think without knowing distances travelled and total callouts, it it unfair to judge. If you decide to use a fitter closer to you because their call out is less then of course that is your right, but you may choose to have someone more expensive but who travels further, because of their experience and/or expertise.

I can spend more than 50% of a day out fitting actually driving so, coupled with the amount of time spent at my desk dealing with admin etc, if I did not charge a reasonable call out I'd not make a living.

I pay £35 for a check and minor adjustment £90 for a major reflocking plus a share of mileage as the saddler will be doing several in the area when she comes .

Hey thanks for sharing, it sounds like everyone is much of a muchness. The £45 call out cost can be spread out, but I am on a yard on my own so that's why it's quite expensive. I have a friend who is going to bring her horse as well so it will be a bit cheaper. I've had bad saddles fitters in the past so I'm going to stick with the one I like. Thanks
