Just very confused about prices as in a previous thread people suggested that they pay £500-£1000 for their land up to about 7 acres but in our search for our friend in Northamptonshire the two fields we have been offer are £2500 a year for 3 1/2 acres and £3000 for 4 acres which seems ridiculous to me but I don't know if I am out of touch with the pricing world for our area!

As you have found fields to rent in this area are very few and far between so they will attract a premium. I heard of a place for rent a month or so ago in Molesworth so bit further out that was 2.5 acres plus stables that was available for £200 a month but that was at the cheaper end of the Market so I think the prices you have mentioned are about right.

I think prices vary considerably but I think this is quite expensive but it depends if you get anything else other than just a field ie water, shelter, paddock maintenance etc. A friend of mine in Oxfordshire pays around £600pa for a couple of acres on edge of village but nothing else and does own maintenance. Sometimes land owned by council is let with a yearly rent, often to farmers.

Probably not helpful but we're in south wales and the council rent us 2 fields, 3 acres + 3.5 acres for just over 600 a year on the condition we fenced it and maintained fencing so I would definitely give your local council a try
