At the moment, me and my friend have been to 3 cub meets this year and aiming to go hunting at least once a week. How much do you generally pay?

Last year i paid £25 each time to go hunting (only went twice) and have paid no more than £15 to go cubbing each time this season. We were talking on Tuesday about people that pay subscription - no way either of us could afford it. And a chap at our stables says he has paid £80 each time to hunt before?!

We enjoy supporting the hunt and attending meets but how many times can you go before having to pay a subscription? and how much have you paid to hunt as a subscriber or not? x

It varies hugely between packs and can depend on the type of country and its relative smartness. Think of the hunts as being like football league sides.

For example the Beaufort and the Quorn in the Premier League charge a lot more for caps and subscriptions than the Fitzwilliam who are in the top of League 1, who in turn charge more than the Torrington Farmers.

For a day cap for the Fitzwilliam you will be looking at £65 per day for main season. Autumn hunting for adults is around £20/£25. You can have 3x daycaps at £65 before we ask for a subscription. Then you have the option of purchasing a full subscription or a discounted 7 day subscription.

Have a word with your secretary as packs often offer deals for those who can't hunt every day with the pack and special prices for under 18s and under 25s. They should have a subscription card they can send you.

If you can't afford it don't panic as you will be welcomed just as much as a foot follower. I take my bike more times than I take a 4 legged creature. The sub for the year is £40 plus field money of a £1 when I go in the shape of a whisky raffle.

A day cap for the Cottesmore is £120 for a one horse day and £150 for a two horse day in the best country! Like combat_claire said - it can vary enormously from pack to pack!

Our pack says you can come out 6 times before they start talking about paying a subscription. But then again we are certainly not talking aboiut the costs involved with some of the big packs. In fact you would probably only get a couple of days with the big packs for what is paid here for a full season!!

£60 day cap here
... Some good "7-day" visitor subscriptions available.
6 outings before either 7-day or full subscription is required.
Wish I could go often enough to enjoy this, but unfortunately I live for my 3-4 outings a year lol.
