At my yard we're on shared straw and its £6 a week for as much as you want (the owners grow it themselves) so it works out at £24 a month and I use about 1/2 bales worth of straw in a week.
As for hay a large roll costs £32 and that lasts my lad a month.
For two horses ( well the welsh a terror and the warmblood ) , I use two round bales of straw at about £12 apiece , and we get in 192 bales of hay for the year from july time till about may , but only use between October and may , so that's about 23 bales a month at £4 each , so £92 a month roughly for the two. I think .
I have been using five bales of shavings a month @6.50 each, last month I used 8 bales of hay @3.50 each.
Likely to go up now as I will have a deeper bed and she will be out for about an hour less per day as we get further into the Winter months. Currently t/o for average of 9 hours per day.
Normally about £5 as my pony lives out and the grazing is very good even in the winter.
However I am making up for having it so cheap for so long as he has been on a full livery rehab yard for the last few months with nearly three months of that on box rest with a deep bed and on ad-lib hay due to an injury and he is just coming back into ridden work and getting some turnout now but still spending a lot of time eating hay and pooing in his stable so doubt hay and bedding consumption has gone down.
As hay and bedding included in the price I don't know how much of the cost of the livery are for bedding and hay but I imagine he must use quite a bit of both being in so much.
£110 per month, this is for his 24/7 turnout and ad lib hay.
If he is in i would spend usually go through two bags of bedmax a week..but he hasn t needed to come in so i don t know how much bed max is these days!
Last year i spent on average £180 per month on haylage!
1 small bale of haylage a day, half in morning, half at night at £6 each.
Out 24/7 in his trash paddock with no grass so he only had haylage and feed to live on
in hindsight, i would have bought big baled hay and just thrown the waste as it would have worked out a lot cheaper!
but i just couldnt find a supplier
Straw i spent £18 a month
1 bale of straw a week at £4.50 each
Bedded down in his field shelter which he only lay down in and peed on, it was deep littered and wet removed weekly.
The above was for one horse!
This year i have one horse and one pony in the same trash paddock
The straw should be the same at £18 a month as they are sharing the shelter
but haylage going down to £60 a month as they will have two large bales at £30 each (seperately baled inside sosplit into two) every two weeks
