Another post from me tonight,

Just thinking whilst doing my monthly online supplement shop. I spend around £80 a month on various supplements. The usual one being breathing supplement (like to alternate with NAF respirator boost and equine america extra strength powder), occasionally have hoof stuff too from time to time.

I would like to give one of mine some immune system boost as he has been poorly and the other one calmer who needs it occasionally in the winter when it's windy outside.

It will soon be linseed oil which I give in the summer months.

Is it ok to mix supplements ?

Also, how much do you spend on average per month ?

A month? Probably £40 . . . he gets turmeric (just been put on it, can't tell whether it works or not), black pepper, linseed oil, magnesium (will stop once he runs out) and pure MSM (will stop when he runs out). Actually, it probably doesn't even come to that much . . . all of those supplements last him forever.

I feed him D&H ERS Pellets which have some other goodies in them like lysine, electrolytes, etc. and I don't give him anything for digestion or any sort of calmer (the magnesium is fed for his feet, but he's getting enough from other sources and it hasn't made any difference to his temperament).

P

I don't add any supplements at the moment. I am glad because my monthly trip to the feed shop is costing enough as it is.

Will soon be about 20 ish per month on synequin (currently have some left bought under insurance claim) then topspec lite, approx 20 per month and for retired mare 15 per month on danilon (hopefully dropping her down to one every other day) so 55 per month

OP ! Why did you just make me work that out, I will have to have a small beverage now to forget cost!

Rule no.1 never write down your costs ! If you don't write them down they are not real!

Dunno, not a fortune, mine get pro balance and micronised linseed in some alfalfa chaff. 15 quid max I imagine.
I'm definitely in the wrong line of work, some of the feed/supplement companies must be laughing all the way to the bank.

I agree we are in the wrong business, when I am skint or sometimes through summer I don't bother with topspec lite but can't avoid the danilon and dex recovering from bone cyst so synequin has been recommended by vet so won't be stopping that any time soon. Alcohol softens the blow!

Ask how much we spend on our own human supplements! my cost per month is 99p for aldi iron tablets!!!! Something wrong me thinks haha !

Mines on:

* Micronised linseed which is about £22 a bag. I think I bought a bag about 3 months ago & have about 1/4 left, so that's about £6 a month.
*Magnesium oxide which is £15 a bag. A bag lasts about 2-3 months, so about £5 a month.
* Brewers yeast I've recently added & as a trial I bought 2 small bags at £5, a bag lasts about a month.

So, it's about £16 a month - oh, I add salt to, but that's about 20p a month I should think!

P has never looked or moved better :)

Probably about £30. Probably don't need to spend this much. However trying to find a calmer that works on my horse (isn't fed regularly so this is a hard enough task as it is!), and a whey protein supplement as the food she's on doesn't have as much protein in it as I'd like so she gets a boost from this.

Does she need both? Depends on how you look at it!

God, I don't even know! Far too much. He has GastriAid which lasts 6 weeks - £28 a tub. Spearmint - £8 lasts an age. Equivite - £16 every couple of months. Magnitude - £19 lasts 6 months.

Equivite because balancers send him loopy, GastriAid because he is a stress head, Spearmint to cover up the taste of bute and Magnitude to take the edge off him.

No idea :) mines on Naf electrosalts, mint, superflex and EnerG with Naf optimum balancer, Happy Hoof and a bit of Cool mix. He's loving it and looking great. Needed to get all the vitamins/minerals etc in and a bit of energy without having to give big feeds.

Micronised linseed for condition £22 which lasts 4 months so £5.50pm
Equimins Probio for his multivits and probiotics £31 which lasts 3 months so £10.33pm

He has the above mixed into speedibeet a bag of which lasts two months at £12 a bag so his feed bill isnt that big really and he has never looked better :)

Grand total of £22 a month for feed and supplements.

About £50 and I'm not a fan of it! She has a daily joint supplement and also nupafeed to settle her day-to-day madness - it hasnt changed her ridden work but has definitely helped her excitable mind and I did used to worry about how worked up she got herself all the time, over the smallest things.

Mine's on tumeric (mostly as rest of yard gets it) which has shown great results in horses on yard, a joint supplement for preventative measure and when he is on the summer field he gets selenium & vit e mix as well because our soil is deficient in it - plus we make our own hay. There is a noticeable difference when the selenium is added!

£15 each on two horses so £30... that's on the naf glucosamine plus msm

That also get a little garlic and soya oil that will bump it up a bit but not much.. so £35 a month maybe?

I spend a small fortune
28/month equimins advance complete pellets
40/month protein acid ease

So the best part of 70/month, however I feed virtually zero other than hay/grass and a handful of lo calorie chaff for a fit competition horse.

My lad is on equistro megabase £26 for 3kg lasts 100 days and is vet recommended. His drugs bill for this month alone will be in the region of £700-800!!

2 ponies. 1 has turmeric, linseed, magnesium, pro balance, cinammon, agnus castus.

Other has linseed, pro balance, magnesium.

Sounds a lot, but between the two of them it is probably £30 a month.

Edit to say I forgot salt and black pepper. But that is pence, especially Aldi salt!

I dread to think! I keep wondering if I can cut down on supplements but I seem to have things fairly under control so I'm loathe to change it. My mare has arthritis, sweet itch and has a cresty neck (holdover from being very overweight when I got her) despite being a good weight now. So for the arthritis she is on turmeric, micronised linseed, pepper, Apple cider vinegar, half a danilon and PremierFlex HA. For the sweetitch, brewers yeast, for the fat pads, magnesium. General balancer is Feedmark's Slim Aid as a lot of the time she is on restricted grazing and soaked hay. I don't want to work out the cost...
