how much do you spend on your horse every month??? Is your horse stabled, turned out or both, do you have lessons or do shows (how often??) etc. Thanks xxxx
When i have 4, too much!! My only fear is i have a spare stable! (might have to fill it!) Horses at home so no livery fee's. Mine are in 27/7 Hunted once a week (some twice) and competed suns and occasional weds when not hunting! Not to mention endless supply of food, straw and haylage! Oh and rugs!! All this cost a fortune but what else are they for apart from spoiling!
On my dutch gelding he is stabled 24 hrs a day with no turn out coz he hates being out and just jumps out and comes back to his stable after 5 mins!
Livery £30 a week
Feed approx £10 a week i guess
Hay £10 a week ish
Shoes £60 every 6-8 weeks
Wormers
I have a lesson once a week, and i compete every weekend. Sometimes fri, sat and sun. Somtimes just sat and sun and sometimes just one day - always BSJA. i dont do dressage or anything.
I worked it out about £100 a month when he's out 24/7 (about 8 or 9 months of the year) and about £180 a month when he's in at night over winter. Although with him being on bute now over the winter that will go up another £10 a month.
Castle is stabled 24/7 at the moment, and I hunt with him every weekend. I compete the odd time, I haven't had lessons in ages though, but I will probably get some decent ones in the new year.
golly i have no idea ALOT though, although with me not eventing so much nest year i will be far lower as bd is approx 15 a class compared to 60 pounds novice be. We have our own stables and the horses are on shavings although we are building new stables with rubber floor so we will save on bedding.
Average per month during summer whilst competing
Supplements=100 although they last up to two moths and some are three or 4 months
feed=40
hay=30
bedding=30
lesson x2=60
Comps on rate of two a month and 2 classes per time = 60
shoeing = 50 for 4 shoes
then there is wormers vets fees, jabs and other things that are not monthly
oh and of course rugs, boots, bandages, bridles, pikeur breeches! lol
LOL way to much!! Not sure on exact figures lol just know that it not a small amount lol . The 2 big ones are in a night and if fields are boggy they are in all the time.
we have one in 24/7 and 3 out at night, all having 2 hard feeds a day and 2 large haynets, shod every 5-6 weeks at £70 a set, most having 3+ supplements( at very expensive prices!!), am competing most weekends and have 1/2 lessons a week, so altogether i rekon at the end of the month it would come to about £500
double that if we do an away show, or have any vets bills as well!!!!
At the moment nothing (generally). They live out 24/7 and have loads of grass so no feed or hay yet. Some are at home and the others are at a friends so no livery rent. Farrier every couple of months (trims only) and the odd wormer when required.
200 a month for diy livery
50 for bedding, haylege and hard food
130 every six weeks for farrier
70 a month insurance - for trailer as well
30 a week for lessons
plus 10 a week for hire of arena
plus petrol
plus competitions fees - work out around £50 a competition.
Now I'm depressed - and I don't even ride - I do this for my girls. And it's just me - their dad doesn't live with us - I must be mad!
£80 per month DIY, out during day, in at night.
£40 per month hay
farrier £10 (£20 for trim but only has them done every 7/8 weeks - very good feet
)
suppliment £30 but lasts ages, as does feed so overall about £10 per month
So that's around £140 per month in winter (£110 in summer) - less than I thought actually!
And the extras - expenses each month too - like lorry repairs/dentist/back/Vaccinations lady etc, probably another £25 a month - would be more, but one of my best mates is a mechanic!!
Im lucky as my family owns 2 farms, so everything is free! Hay, starw, turnout, stables, water (we have our own well). So im pretty lucky, only expense is shoeing 2 of the horses. However, i have spent £2000 this year on putting 2 mares in-foal.
