My YO has a trailer that she never uses (is in good working order etc though) and I plucked up courage today to ask if i might be able to 'hire' it from her occasionally to go for the odd lesson etc. She said yes, but what do you think i should offer to give her for using it? It wouldn't be going far - would be out for a couple of hours I should think. She is one of those kind of people that if i ask her what i should pay, will say "well what's it worth to you?"
 
Around £25 - £30 is what I used to pay for hiring a trailer so I shouldn't think you'll need to pay more than that

May I just say ,check it is insured,
My friend borrowed one and had an accident, the trailer was written off and she ended up paying for it, even though ,I believe, the trailer had a problem that only a garage would know about.
 
hmm, good point, i had kind of thought about insurance and then thought it sounded complicated so forgot about it, but i know i should do. i will investigate...
 
My YO has a trailer that she hires and for a half day she charges £15 w/o driver and £25 if you want the driver. and that goes for mosr places I have used

well i was thinking 15-20 but didn't know if i was being a bit tight! thank you, at least i know i'm not embarrasingly off track - i reckon i'll try 15, like you say it's just sat there otherwise.
 
Please, please be careful, The_carthorse is right, you need to be insured properly.

I phoned my insurers to check that I was insured with borrowing a trailer, they said yes, husband turned landrover, trailer & 80 bales of hay over as a result of a blowout on the trailer tyre, we were insured for towing but we were not insured to repair the trailer, only for damage to other vehicles/property that was done by the trailer when towing (fortunatley there wasn't any, just us!). This cost us £1000 plus the excess on our vehicle (quite an accident caused by a nail in the tyre)

So what was a cheaper option actually turned out to be a very expensive mistake.
