just trying to make myself feel better as currently im putting in 2 bags of aubiose a week, my horse is on box rest and is a filfthy cow, so if you are spending £2 on 1 bale of straw a week i dont want to know :D

Way too much, about £15, horse is also on box rest and a minger. He's on the cheapest shredded shavings I could find, hoping to try pellets this week. I matted his stable so can just put shavings down in one area, hopefully.

I use about 1 1/2-2 bags of shavings a week for mine on boxrest. When she goes back out in the day and in at night, it will probably be about 1 a week,
:)

I pay £7.50 per bale delivered in bales of 10.

2 bales of shavings a week for my messy mare on deep litter. Pay between 5.95 and 7.50 depending on where I get them from.

Sorry....... :D

I have a really big messy horse, but since switching to wood pellets over matting am only spending about £5.00 per week. Probably a smidge less tbh. I LOVE my new choice of bedding :)

Sorry but I'm one of them who spends £3 a bale of straw and use 1 1/2 to 2 a week for a knee deep fluffy bed x can use shavings as stupid ned eats it!

about 2.75 but hes deep littered, very tidy and isnt on box rest... the other how ever is going through about 7.50 a week... on straw hes a total skank and is only in 12 hours :o

I spend £28 a horse a month.
Our yard gets big lorry loads of green sawdust which we pay £28 per month for ad lib, it's great :D
It's brilliant bedding as well because really absorbant, completely dust free and really easy to muck out

1-2 bales of shavings a week at around £6, he hasn't got a huge house now so this has saved pennies and he doesn't mosh it all up so bad now

so if you are spending £2 on 1 bale of straw a week i dont want to know :D

Well dont ask then! :D

Currently spending £0 per week as horse still out.
Have now got bed down tho ready in case I get the hump about poo-picking paddock in the dark at both ends of the day next week - thus bringing her in.

I have no idea what I'll be using as DF has only been with me 5 weeks & has been out 24/7 with Tiny Fuzzy. Lots of comfybed in the barn tho as ordered 40 bales back in July when they were on offer.
I would like to hope that it will be less than 1 bale a week (as per BF last winter) - £6.39 per bale, I was using 2-4 bales a month.

I use 1/2 - 1 bale of shavings a week, I use Hunters which are £8.50. Horse deep littered with a pellet base and I use 1 bag a month which is £6.

I spend £6 a week on each horse with straw. £1.50 per bale. Nice deep beds, huge banks, mucked out daily. They're messy bu**ars though!

Two messy mares and we use one big bale of straw every six weeks at a cost of £20.. so less than £1.50 a week each. Sorry!!

I think with a really filthy horse straw is still the best way to go, seeing a mountain of poo mashed into very expensive bedding EVERY morning is soul destroying.

Another on pellets but two different ones at the moment

Ned 1(wet minger) on Five Star Premium - use about 1 x 15kg bag a fortnight (£5.95)
Ned 2(not quite so wet but smelly) on Verdo - use 1 x 15kg bag a week (£3.54)

Both on fully matted stables with 1/2 beds, wet out once a week.

So the grand total of about £7 a week for two but even if they were twice the price I wouldn`t change!

I do love straw but I don`t love the smell

£25 for a bale of straw!!!!!!!!
Round here farmers chop it so if you ask you only pay for baling. Costs me £2.50 per big round bale, 20 bales for 2 horses (out summer) so £50 per YEAR

One bale of shavings a week which is £6.35 per horse. Sometimes I have to top it up a bit so put a couple in once a month. My boys are quite clean though.

I've got the 2 hunters on pellets because it keeps them much cleaner. It cost me £25 per stable to get the base bed but now just top up a bag a week in each stable so £2.50 a stable!

The others which are in are on shavings, free from the joinery shop up the road (Yey) and the youngsters are still turned out. Debating what to put them on when they come in. Straw looking likely as I don't think the joinery shop will produce enough shavings and i've got enough pellets to last the winter for just the hunters. Last year I was paying £2 a bale of straw so with 3 on straw, probably £12 a week for them. Hoping for a dry(ish) winter so we can get a few out in the day

For my gelding he has a bale of shavings a week so £7 and my mare has 1/2 a bale a week as shes on rubber matting so she cost £3.50 per week. Grand total of £10.50 a week!

I used to use shavings. I have 6. So at one bag per week it was €48 per week. And someone always needed 2 so roughly per month I was €225. It was way too much. I'm on straw now. It's €15 euros per week for all 6. This gives them nice fluffy beds which are mucked properly daily. So basically I spend €10 per month per horse.

2 horses on straw, 1 big bale costs £12 last 3 weeks so £2 a week. Why do people use wood chips, if you look at big racing yards they are on straw.

I have 2 horses, one is a grey & very messy (always the way with greys) the other is very clean. I use 2 bales shavings on the grey & 1 on the other a wek. I buy in 42 bales on a pallet. They're large dust extracted shavings @ £6.87p per bale.
