How much a month/year does it cost you to run your box?
Do you think its worth the cost?
How often do you use it?

I am looking at a 3.5 van conversion (and reccomendations of converters in the north or within travelling distance would be great. Thinking of md horseboxes?)

Thanks

Tax is £118 for 6 months. I pay £280 insurance including breakdown cover. I dont pay service or mot as YO's hubby does all that foc as I ride one of theirs in return. Last year from service to service (nov 2010 to nov 2011) I did just over 4000 miles so well used. Works out cheaper than driving a 4x4 around all the time as I do about 10,000 miles per year in my car. I use mine every week once minimum. Can't recommend any round you as down south.

Someone once estimated to me that for a box you have to allow around £1,000 per year. I've owned my conversion for a year nad have to say that's about accurate!!!! BUT I use mine most weekends so it's worth it - if I was going once a month I'd prob just hire. Obviously it depends on the age of your lorry - mine is oldish and so I did have to have a few repairs done hence the additional cost. But I love it!!

When I bought my box I worked out that if I was going out twice a month then I would be better off buying rather than renting and that's pretty accurate. I would say if you budget 1k for running costs you should be ok.

Running costs aren't the problem, it's the cost if anything needs fixing at the plating / MOT that's the huge chunk out of your bank balance!

My 3.5t costs me £118 tax for 6 months, £300ish for insurance and breakdown, £55 MOT and I think I put about £70 petrol in for the whole summer and I went out one day on the weekend near enough every weekend local.
